Pre-Nursing student. CNA job offer on ICU unit-HELP!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello All nurses!

I'm brand new to this site, and have a question for all the nurses, nursing students, and even cna's out there! I'm a pre-nursing student who currenty works in a hospital(in an office) so I recently took an accelerated CNA course to get my license to be able to get that patient interaction! I've been blessed with an amazing opprotunity..or atleast I think I have...to work on an ICU unit, now the feedback I have been getting from peope I work with has varied. I would like to think ICU is great expirience, yet others are teling me its to "intense" for a first CNA job and requires some expirience and easing into... I learn pretty quick, and am not lazy or becoming a CNA for the money..I truly want to be a part of helping someone, and getting to interact with patients. What is your oppinion, do I start off on a "easier" unit??:icon_roll

I say do it! I only wish I had the opportunity to be a CNA in ICU. I have my CNA license and can't get a job anywhere! :( It would be a great opportunity for you!

Specializes in Operating Room.

I say go for it. Once you finish your nursing degree you may be able to get a spot there as an RN. That would be awesome!!

All patients need care, need bathed, turned, fed, some are just sicker than others. CNAs sometimes don't get the credit they deserve for the work they do, but it would be a great opportunity. Take the job and get all the experience that you can, you'll be glad you have it when you are looking for a job after you get your license.

Specializes in Long Term Care,Cardiac Care,Pediatric..

I'm Jealous! I would LOVE to work in the ICU. It may be a little intimidating at first, but that is how it is when you first enter the field. Take the job, that is an amazing opportunity. :yelclap:

As a CNA who works on a telemtry unit and a nursing student I say TAKE IT!!! Good luck!

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

I would jump at that opportunity.

i say go for it, not all CNA are given an opportunity to work in the ICU dept.
