Pre-Nursing Ivy Tech Bloomington Question

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

hi everyone, i'm a long time reader, first time poster and happy to be here at last! :D

i have a question about ivy tech in bloomington for anyone who can (possibly) answer...

since i'm a pre-nursing student, can i try and take all of my pre-requisites before i even attend the meeting for up and coming nursing hopefuls? meaning, i get all of them (pre-requisites) out of the way before i even apply for nursing. this would include the co-requisites as well.

has anyone taken online classes for any of the pre-requisites? if so, did you like them?

what classes would you not take online?

sorry for all the questions (lol) i'm going back to school since the 80's and i'm just trying to gain all the helpful information that i can....:clown:

thanks so much triple l's (live-laugh-love)

kudos to you working, going to school and having a small one to look after. honestly, i don't know if i could do that.

online would be so awesome for me, but i've heard stories about ppl that did take anp online and someone said they thought they might need to get a pig (baby one) i think it was for dissection. omg, my 14 year old would freak if i had to do something like that! i can just see myself in the kitchen with this pig cutting into it and him passing out on the floor! please tell me this isn't true someone.:no:

i'm just so ready for my classes to begin. i'm tired of waiting! i wish the 21st of oct. would hurry and get here!!

i took anp 102 online this summer and yes, i had to order a fetal pig.

I took ANP 102 online this summer and yes, I had to order a fetal pig.

Man, I don't think I'd enjoy that. I took all my ANP's on campus and we never did any dissecting at all. We just looked at plastic models, microscope slides, and color pictures.

Lab exams were pretty easy, though. Just walk around the room and ID what the arrow is pointing at on the model or slide. I think I only missed 1 or 2 per test. It was probably the easiest tests I ever took.

Math, though, don't get me started. Definitely my weakest area. However, I've found MedMath to be a lot simpler than what I was doing in MAT 050 or MAT 111, thank goodness!

was that at the bloomington campus?

I did my ANP 2 on line out of Terra Haute. Had an excellent teacher and we had one lab day there where we had to do a disection of a fetal pig.

It sounds horrid but it was so amazing to me to see all the vessels, liver and such.

The lab day was very relaxed and informal and we got 100 points just for showing up.

that sounds pretty awesome. i'm really not sure if i'm going to take my anp's online yet. i have a little bit of time to make up my mind. thanks for that information! :heartbeat

I took ANP at the Gary campus and we dissected a cow's heart, kidney, and explored a pair of lungs. At first, I was grossed out but the take away that you receive from doing that is far better than not. I now look forward to working on cadavers if I have the opportunity :nurse:. I do not know if I could order a pig to my house. :sofahider I would not suggest to take this class online, I feel that you would be cheating yourself.

no, i don't think i could order a pig either! i can't imagine fedex coming to my door with a pig! (lol)

i do have a question for those of you that have done anp classes, what is the difference between anp i and anp ii? what do you do in each of those classes? also, do you think it was the hardest class you have to take?

sorry for all the questions, i just want to know whats ahead for me in the spring.

thanks~! :redpinkhe

was that at the bloomington campus?

yup. i've done almost all my courses at bloomington. took what i could at the bedford annex, though. it's way less of a drive.

anp 2 isn't any harder than anp 1. it's just the other half of the same textbook that wasn't covered in anp 1. i had an easier time in 2 because i knew what to expect, what the tests would be like, and what kind of questions would be asked. my hardest class so far was anp 201. might have had something to do with the teacher, though! micro was great fun and i really enjoyed psych and english. i'm a nerd who loves to write papers. i actually wrote 2 papers for each assignment in english and then debated on which to turn in. i think i've studied the hardest for mat 111, though. it took a lot of practice to get it right.

the good news is that it gets easier once you're actually in the nursing program. my stress level is much lower than it was during pre-reqs and i don't have to spend near as much time with my nose in a book. i've actually got time to spend with my kids now!:specs:

Wow, that is great. You give me something to look forward to :D!

for me, at the gary campus, anp 102 a little different from 101 but only because that is the way our instructor had it set up. 101 had majority paper tests with a couple oral tests, you know bones and stuff. but 102 was mostly oral because you start learning more about body systems. i had a professor who was super-tough but that is the best way to learn. he made me study hard because i knew he was not playing around :nono:.
