pre-nursing classes

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

How long does it take to complete the pre-nursing classes?1 year ? 2 years?or more?

what subject do you suggest to take first when you have no science background?

It depends how many classes your schedule allows you to take. You can take up to 30 credits a year that is you go fulltime and also in the summer. Usually you have to take a placement test first before you can start. Depends on the results of the placement test, you may require to take remedial or English 101. Once you take English 101, you may take the science courses. You have to check the colleges in your area to make sure the information is correct. Your first step should be to call a local college and apply. Good luck you.

I agree with the above poster. I also suggest you run a search on this board for this topic. I read that it took many 1-2 years full-time or 2-3 years part-time. One poster wrote it took her 5 years part-time. So it really really depends on the individual and Nursing School requirements.

By the way, it took me only one semester to complete my pre-requisites because I already have a BA and MBA. However, if I get into the Nursing Program this January 2007 it will have taken me 1.5 years to complete my requirements because my school gives more points to people who complete co-requisite courses, not just pre-reqs so I have to complete them before the end of this Summer and take a course on Medical Dosages this Fall. Therefore, be sure to check into how schools give out points for Nursing School Admissions before you start your journey. Good luck. ;)

I would probably count on one year minimum for prereqs, more so if you have other responsibilities such as a job, family, etc. Whatever you do please don't rush yourself through your prereqs because you'll need above-average grades in order to have a decent shot at getting into ANY nursing program.

With no science background, I would suggest beginning with Biology. Some schools may even require that course before you take A & P or Micro. An advisor at your current school will be able to help you more with that. Best of luck!
