Wow, I have some great praise for a wonderful doctor! This was my first day as a CNA. My first real health care job in a hospital ever. I was nervous, but I had taken and passed the certification exam, so I felt prepared at least. Oh, and I was sweating uncontrollably for some reason, too. Well, I went in a room to make the bed. They do it a little differently from how I learned in school, so I was just taking it slow since it was my first time making one. I wanted it perfect you know. Well, I hadn't gotten the bottom sheet on yet when the pt comes in and starts talking to me. So I stop and listen because he's down a little about his operation and obviously needs a sympathetic ear. Then, the doc comes in, and I'm like YIKES, so I begin to begin again with the sheet. The doc talked to pt for a minute, then the pt leaves and doc stays behind. Meanwhile, I had been struggling to fold a draw sheet to perfect specifications, and I was taking sooooo long. Plus, I was sweating like you wouldn't believe, so I looked a mess. I could just feel the ticking of the clock. The doc came over, and I thought, "Oh great, here goes the why are you taking so long question." He started helping me make the bed!!! We finished and he asked, "Is this you're first day?" I nodded, and he smiled real big. "You're doing just fine." Then he went out the door and told the charge nurse that there was a very caring CNA making the bed in that room, as he pointed at me through the doorway. I felt so uplifted. It really made me feel bad for letting all of the negative comments about doctor's attitudes get to me. I didn't mean to think he would automatically be mean, but he surprised me when he came in like that, so I just reverted to what I had heard. I've learned my lesson, and that doctor has really earned some brownie points with me. If I can be of extra assistance to him, I will be.
