Anyone out there applying to Prairie View for entrance in the Fall 2014 semester?! The deadline is soon approaching! How far along are you in the application process? Feel free to post any questions, comments, or concerns you may have. Good luck to all!
I'm a PV grad (December 2012). We didn't like that the program was 2 1/2 years so if they got it down to 2 years, I'm jealous (huh, I guess enough of us complained that they made it shorter since the rest of the nursing programs -- UT, UTMB and TWU -- were all 2 years, so if they shortened theirs too, wow).
Yes, we broke for summer, and honestly, it was probably a good idea compared to UTHSC and TTUHSC (but hey, whatever floats your boat). With how some of the teachers were when it came it came to running some of the semesters, it was great to not have to worry about school. Some of my classmates who started out with me got ahead (they got OB/Pedi out of the way one summer), and graduated a semester ahead.
I hated our scrubs until the last semester. I hope they've changed it since -- when I went, we had 3 sets of scrubs. Those hideous white ones that made us look like we worked on a psych unit (which may I add were more expensive than the scrubs I've bought since I started working), a set for OB/Pedi that were different because the different hospital sites required something else (I don't know why we couldn't just wear those for the whole program), and semester 5, we wore purple scrubs.
Congratulations on getting in, andgood luck. You'll probably hate PV while you're in (a lot of people in my class did; I didn't think it was as bad as they made it), but you'll appreciate it after you graduate.
Each semester wears different scrubs. Depending on your semester, the scrubs vary in colors of white and purple. Although, they said they may be changing the scrubs to be purple and white for all semesters. Yes, the program is 5 semesters...2 and half years, and we do break for the summer (trust me, you will want to break for the summer). But keep in mind PV offers summer courses. You can take your electives, clinicals, etc. in the summer if you choose to, but again, it is optional. I personally like the program is 5 semesters...once you start, you'll understand why. What we do in 5 semesters, other programs do in 4 which is great in the long run.
ZamudioIsaid, it should say on your packet when everything is due. Mine says April 28th.
Yeah mine says April 28th also but it also says i should be receiving a fast pass on the mail to go get the fingerprinting done but i havent received that yet. So how is it that theyre expecting everything to be turned in by that date?
Hey guys!!!! I have gotten everything done thus far. I have no health insurance but I called H, and she said that I can just write a memo explaining my situation which is that getting insurance through the marketplace has been a pain in the butt. Anywho just wanted to let anyone who might have this situation know it's no big deal. However you do need titers, physical, and vacs by may 28 deadline which is Monday coming up in 3 days. Whhhooooo!!! So excited!!!!
sunshine:)
