i'M A PICC LINE NURSE DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY PROTOCOL OR WEBSITES THAT HAS INFORMATION ON PRADAXA WITH PICC LINE INSERTION.

I saw this in my drug guide...not PICC specific, but it's directed towards invasive procedures:

"For surgery, discontinue dabigatran 1–2 days (CrCL B50 mL/min) or 3–5 days (CCr

Just a personal note... I'm on Pradaxa, and had my Hickman removed (requiring cutting out cuff), and a biopsy (wedge)... no doses were held- doc did them both in the office. With moderate pressure held, and 2x2s w/Tegaderm, I was fine- nothing bled through either dressing. Even if there isn't enough time to withhold as long as maybe they'd want to, it's not an automatic disaster (depending on other issues as well, of course).

Specializes in Vascular Access.

LynnK,

What exactly are you asking about? As a PICC inserter, are you asking if the med should be stopped at any time prior to insertion, or are you asking what should your labs be before placing the line ie, coag studies?

Or, are you concerned that being on this med may be a contraindication for PICC placement?

Sorry, not sure what your concerns are. If possible, elaborate please.
