I purchased a very helpful book off Amazon called Health Occupations Entrance Exam by Learning Tree. It contains 3 practice exams as well as study tips. I am not writing the HOAE until this summer, so I am just working through the book and upgrading at the same time. The book contains English (spelling & reading comprehension), math, science (biology, chemistry and natural science).
I have heard it is difficult and that there is very little time to answer the questions. Many of my PSW classmates are rushing to write the test next month- and if they are ready, that is great for them. I've decided to wait, study, and upgrade. You can only write the HOAE once a year, so I want to make sure I get the highest mark possible!
I wrote the HOAE a year ago. The test included math (as I can recall I had a lot of money problems, figuring out percentages, conversion questions ex kg to lbs, etc) and there was no calculator allowed. It also had reading comprehension, so you had 2 short stories to read and you had to answer questions on it. There was spelling, grammar. There was visual patterning questions (those were hard! I did not do well on that part!) and the sciences were pretty basic chemistry and biology (but they did throw some strange questions in...one I can remember was what tree looses its leaves first in the fall!) It is pretty basic knowledge, so don't stress too much about it. Just make sure to watch the time and pace yourself. You should do fine!
Hey guys, I just received my HOAE test result today and have applied in Conestoga and mohawk for practical nursing (sept 2017). I don't know how to calculate my final mark ( HOAE + highschool GPA) to get a sense of where I'm standing. Also, it says in Conestoga college that every university level course taken in high school will receive 10 points each, and all of my courses taken in high school are U level, so how does that work? 10 points= 10 marks for each course?
thank you, btw my HOAE result was no good

I will be taking the HOAE test for practical nursing next week. I applied to Mohawk, Sheridan & Centennial for RPN program. I am just wondering what should I study for this test? (what kind of math, science, etc...) What's on it? Is it a hard test?
