hello everyone,:)
does anyone know if it is necessary to have had practical experience in all areas listed (eg: medical, surgical, mental, children, gerontology .......) during nursing education when applying for the registration exam ?
i have had lots of theory in all areas but never worked in the maternal/newborn area during my education.
is that going to be a problem ?
thanks for any reply,

Generally clinical hours are expected to support the theory hours
but is this going to cause a problem in my application as long
as I have the theoretical knowledge in this area ?
does it count as practical experience if I only ever had two days of practice
in the area ? or does practical experience mean two to three months on the
same floor ? all in all i had over 4000 hours of practical training just not in
the maternal/newborn area....

In the United States, it is not always necessary to have clinical experience in all areas to take the NCLEX-RN (the licensing exam). However, each state makes its own specific rules. So if you wish to be licensed in the US, you'll have to check with the State Board of the particular state that interests you.

Hi everybody,
Do you guys know which state doesn't require maternal nursing?
Thanks a lot!
I would be interested too, all the states I am aware of require maternal child experience in the form of a rotation or simulation.
Okay, thanks for the reply.
Oh and as far as I know work experience doesn't count either.
