I am using the Potter and Perry 7th edition and am so angry at the number of mistakes in the questions both in the book AND in the cd that comes with the book. I already work in medicine and have alot of knowlege already about some of this material and I probably notice more than the brand new inexperienced student, but, how am I supposed to trust the material when there are so many mistakes in the answer keys??? It's infuriating..especially since the book costs 100 bucks!!!!

what kind of mistakes have you found?

The answers are wrong on the cd and the back of the book. U can even refer directly back to the passage in the book that states one thing and you answer accordingly to the cd and it says the answer is wrong. Also, most questions that require you to arrange things in the proper order are said to be wrong even when you find the correct order in the book.

example? chapter 40, question number 4, the correct answer is oxygen forms a strong bond with carbon monoxide, not the other answer the cd says is correct.

another example, chapter 41, question number 5, the answer in the back of the book does not the answer to the SAME question on the cd

I am in my third quarter and this is one of the biggest complaints we have made to the instructors, especially since they tell us to study them because they "could be questions on the upcoming test."

If go to the evolve website it says it has corrected answers for the book, but I have yet to find one that has been changed, and the online tests are not much better.

We were told to complain to the publisher. Besides the mistakes I can't stand the amount of typo's and repeated information.

It's NOT your imagination and you have every reason to be irate that you've paid for what, essentially, amounts to an expensive doorstop. I can understand your frustration though! We're also strongly encouraged to attempt the NCLEX questions in each of our texts....if for NO other reason than the material is handy. I'm in the same boat as you with the previous experience and noticed the same problem with the book.

We're using Potter & Perry too (one of our INSTRUCTORS helped to write the thing! LOL) and have voiced the same complaints you're posting about here to our instructors. Someone in my class said they called the publisher...I wouldn't say this is the gospel...but they said were told the book/CD does have discrepancies and is being recalled.

Like that helps those of us using the expensive paperweight we purchased and are being tested on THIS semester!?! My advice, because again...I heard that little tidbit in class...is call the publisher yourself and see if its true. If it is, ask for something in writing to bring back to your instructors and then go from there.

I hope you get some answers soon! :wink2:

Yea, that CD frustrates me quite frequently.

We're still using the 6th edition of the book (possibly 'cos of the reasons you cite...) and was wondering which chapters those were in - the chapter numbers don't line up with my edition.

However, from my undergrad bio days, I recall that oxygen and carbon monoxide are just gasses and don't interact too much. However, Carbon monoxide does bind more strongly to hemoglobin than does oxygen, hence the reason why CO is so dangerous.
