I recently got an offer for postpartum position as a New grad, but I can not stop thinking about how I would be missing out on learning basic nursing skills if I went straightly into PP. I always loved OB, but I am afraid of starting out there. I want to apply for ER position but the problem is that I have already accepted the PP position. Should I go back to my recruiter and tell them that I really want to interview for the ER? this would be at the same hospital. I don't want to burn bridges, but I also really want to learn a lot of critical life saving skills in my first year.

ER is not a place to learn or reinforce nursing skills. It's a place you go to build on them. The skill you'll need to learn are meaningful time management, correct use of the nursing and medical record, clinical organization among others. Just my personal opinion, the ER is not a place for a new grad. Do some do it? I'm sure, but the really successful ones are outliers.
That's a really good point you made offlabel.

I get the not wanting to burn bridges. If your hospital has a good new grad program and you really want to do ED then do it! I work at a level one hospital that hires plenty of new grads into the ED and most excel. Good luck!
