Hello Guys @SunshinePMHNP2026 & @ProspectiveNP1 I am suppose to start this month but still deciding if I should look at another school.unfortunately I am a FT RN beside so I do not have time to really sit etc. I also am worried about managing all my schools along with the personal life of being a mom of 3. I just got accepted 2 days ago in the program. Maybe we can help each other study etc or see what school will be benefit for us.

@ShayLove Hi

I haven't even applied yet LOL . I'm so indecisive ! Im in Chicago and was looking into Lewis which is here in IL. It's online programs but health assessment is in person . It's basically once a week for 4 mths and I wouldn't mind that . But , it is about 45-60 mins away . Evening class so I know traffic will be so bad plus I get nervous driving at night on the express way ugh.I do get a 25% off and 6 mth tuition payment plan which is nice . I believe one can also do the classes in person but that's too far for Me . Then I came across Post which I get a 20% discount  . It's $5k less than Lewis and it's all online ! So I thought wow that's better right ?  I thought and I ll finish 2yrs 4 mths instead of the 2.5-3 at Lewis. But then I wonder if I should go with Lewis because of the health assessment in person I feel it's good to do.  Ugh I'm so confused . So far it's between these 2 schools . I'm also thinking of looking at Purdue global online from Indiana . Money is also a big factor for Me . Post said that they do also have internal scholarships . Post is all pre recorded no online live classes . Lewis is a mix of both which I prefer .I've heard most online schools you have to teach yourself that and I don't like that . I don't want to go to a nursing mill prgram if that makes sense. Lewis I have to write an essay and include 2 recommendation letters. Post you don't at all . I was in shock and asked the advisor how come ? I know some may think it's easier but then I question that . She said if you have a lower GPA then you need to provide other documents which I'm assuming is recommendation letters. I'm in my mid 40s so I have to time to waste I don't want to be in school for 3 yrs but then I don't want to be feeling like I know nothing when I graduate . Just so confused.

@ProspectiveNP1 yes I could see where you're coming from. I'm also the beginning between if I wanna start with them, I'm scheduled just talk to the financial aid advisor yesterday to start for September 15. But I'm just indecisive. I think I'm gonna call another school on Monday and look into another school in my area that seems to be a pretty good school as well. My only concern is I would have to take out a loan for the whole program of school unfortunately I do not qualify for any Pell grants so I'm trying to get something where I do not have to pay monthly to go to school along with my other expenses and kids. I am in Florida so it is very expensive down here. But I like that I was told that the clinicals are separate from the classes, which is good. I can focus on one thing at a time and for eight weeks just in rotation like when I start my clinical hours I just do my hours and work. I don't have to worry about doing school so that's what I like. But I also speaking to some other kids, they're saying that there's like 3APEA exams that was not mentioned. And what you would need to pass one of the exams you only get to try so if you don't pass, you do not get accepted into the NP Program. My only concern is let's say that since I'm completing my innocence into FNP with if I would be able to transfer my MSN credits to another school to obtain my masters, but I'm not sure if that's something that they allow so I'm going to call them on Monday to get more information. Or see if they will just give you your degree of having your masters at least instead of all your hard work going to waste if you're not able to pass the NP exams . I was  told that it's only one to get into the actual program but now I'm hearing otherwise so I'm a little curious about that as well.

@ShayLove

you said that '3APEA exams that was not mentioned.' I was only told 1 3P exam is needed and that's after the 3 classes . Is this the same as the 3APEA? And if so do you mean it's 3 not 1?  I'm sorry I didn't get the last part of your reply . Are you saying that you want to know if you are able to get MSN only in case can't get NP ? That's a good idea too and didn't think of that . I definitely didn't ask about that because didn't think of that and wondering if they ll allow . I'm the same as you confused if its a right choice me picking Post . I'm scared I will get behind only with all online only . Ppl say we will teach ourselves but I don't want to do that . I'm paying to be taught ! Same I won't qualify for any Pell grants . Hard to get financial aid with grad school .

@ProspectiveNP1 hi yes sorry I was saying was I had spoke to another student and she was saying how she is a member of Post but was saying that she was told that there was only one exam but learning from other students she was told that there's actually three that you have to pass in the whole nurse practitioner course. So she was looking to transfer out somewhere else. But I personally like that it's only one class for eight weeks. And then I liked that my clinicals is eight weeks as well, but I will only focus on clinicals one at a time. instead of trying to do both clinicals and my classes that's something that I cannot do because I still have the balance being a mom and also working a full-time so on Monday I'm gonna speak to another school that I have in mind but I just don't know why all these schools want you to write essays and recommendations and all this is ridiculous recommendation as to why you wanna go back to school like come on. but yes, that's true. That's definitely what I'm looking at. I don't wanna take on any more monthly payments with any school. I rather it just go in debt, but I'm already in so much debt from nursing school and medical assistant school that I really don't wanna take on any more debt but at the same time I do need to find my career in make more money for my bills down here in Florida is just ridiculously expensive

@ShayLove yes Florida is expensive lived in Fort Myers for 5 years rent just keep going up started affordable at 1200 jumped up to 2200 at the end of the fives years! But no pay increases.

@ShayLove oh wow that she didn't tell Me about 3 tests?! I would have to ask that as well . Yes, I do like one class at a time . I think there are pros and cons to 8 weeks classes. One finishes faster but then is it harder because all that material in 8 weeks . The other school Lewis they also have 8 week courses but then the second half is 16 weeks like health assessment is 16 weeks . I have to look at their curriculum again. Yes everything soooo expensive . Years ago FL used to be cheaper than IL . Ias I said I'm in. Chicago and it's so expensive here and the taxes! We are one of the highest . My dad lives in Coral Gables with my Sister. His rent is ridiculous more than mine ! I know Coral Gables is a very nice area and that's why . My area is nice but I am in subsidized housing . So I pay market rent because of my income but most here are low Income . Thankfully they don't kick anyone out just make the person full market rent . I was looking to purchase but it's so expensive now the houses and the interest rates. My daughter is a full time college student - she is nursing program second semester. She goes to Christian univ and even with student loans- school grants and scholarships I have to pay monthly tuition. As I said don't qualify for her for any federal grants . Now tuition this semester is $1k a month !!  I have to add her to my health insurance because she was u see her father for years . He removed her and we just found out on Saturday so imagine I'm so stressed now . Post is looking good because of the price but I don't know I don't want to make a mistake .
