Would you choose an online or classroom based NP program?

Hi all,

I am having trouble choosing between a local online NNP program, and a classroom based one near my family in the NYC area. My basic question is: which would YOU choose for your career as a Neonatal NP, if you were "young and single?"

Thanks.

Let's see....If I were "young and single"....I would probably go the classroom route. That way I would not only get a good education, but also have the potential to meet my soul mate, and become old and married.:lol2:

Not good as your family tree won't fork, lol!

I don't really think "young and single" has anything to do with it. If you're trying to choose between classroom and virtual, you'd better think long and hard about your learning style.

I have taken purely online classes, purely classroom classes, and hybrids that combine elements of both. For me, purely online is a disaster. I'm not as self-motivated as I'd like to be. I rely on visual and auditory clues (such as facial expression, vocal inflection, etc.) when interpreting instructional information, and I like being able to raise my hand and ask a question if I need clarification. Online courses just don't do it for me.

But just because *I* would choose classroom over virtual every time, it doesn't mean that's the best choice for YOU.

Good luck.

I live in NYC and attend StonyBrook's online NP program. Being "young and single" I know I have the flexibility to relocate at any time without school commitments. I can even do the program from Alaska...

And I also get to work full-time. ;)

Hello NYNewgrad! I will be submitting my application to Stony Brook online ANP program some time this week and I was wondering if you could help answer some questions for me. I am kind of nervouse since I have not been in school for 2 1/2 yrs.

1. Is the program difficult compared to undergrad?

2. What kind of assignments are assigned (i.e. papers, group projects)

3. Are the professors available to answer your questions in a timely fashion?

4. How often do you have to visit on campus?

5. Was it diffcult to get accepted to the program?

6. Are the books and course material expensive?

7. ARe the tests typically multiple choice?

8. Are you able to have a social life and work and keep up with the work?

I know that these are a lot of questions but I am really clueless about online programs. Feel free to pm me if you rather do so. Thanks so much and I hope to see you there next semester.
