starting graduate school next week!

I graduated with my BSN in May 2009 and was urged by one of my instructors (who is now my advisor and director of the grad program at my alma mater and grad school) to come back because she thought I'd be great in the field of nursing education. I'm starting out with one class a semester, maybe two in the summer and I thought it would be great to network with other new MSN candidates.

Anyone else out there starting on the adventure of an MSN (with a concentration in Nursing Education would be even better) this spring?

So how's it going?

I just started this semester and Advanced Pathophysiology is killing me. It's online, which is what is making it even worse. I just can't seem to get through all the reading and the info is just not "clicking," and I always LOVED (and aced) my bio courses, so this really bothers me. But anyway, I hope the other classes are going to be more on-campus, cause this is making me want to give up already!

I just enrolled in an MSN program for nursing education. I start March 1 at Chamberlain College of Nursing. Where are you going for your degree? Good luck! Nursing needs dedicated educators.

Something to keep in mind with an MSN with a specialty in Education is that after graduation you won't have any more clinical qualifications than you do now. If you get your MSN with a specialty in FNP, or at least adult health NP, you will still be well qualified to teach AND have additional clinical skills.

I was in your position a year ago. After talking it over with a friend of mine who did his MSN in education I decided to go with ARNP instead. He teaches, but he is still stuck working as a staff floor nurse if he wants extra hours. At least with ARNP I will be able to work primary care, assist with physician rounding, etc.

I still plan on teaching after grad school, in addition to clinical duties, so to beef up my educator role I will be obtaining my CNE (Certified Nurse Educator). At that point I should be well qualified to do whatever I want. At least that's the plan! :D

I was hesitant about wanting to be a nurse practitioner but I knew I wanted to get in the classroom. I know some schools around me have an NP certification/2nd master's degree program.
