GWU ABSN Spring 2017

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello everyone!!!

Thought I start a thread about GWU Accelerated BSN program spring 2017. Hope we can exchange experience in regards to the application process. I just finished NursingCas and got all my materials verified. Now it's a waiting game😬😬😬. Anyone else has applied?

Hello! I was accepted in the early decision round as well and will be attending the first W2 interview date!

I'm from the Northern VA/DC metro area so if you guys have any questions, please feel free to ask! :)

Nice to meet you all!

Hey @wheresyec!

Is there public transportation between DC and Ashburn that runs on the weekend. I noticed the GWU shuttles only run during the week and I'll be there during a weekend and didn't want to have to rent a car.

Thank You!

Hi stefsteph. I would say no unfortunately. Even if there were commuter buses, I really wouldn't rely on it because Ashburn is in the outskirts of northern VA. Any sort of public transportation will be local or will take you to the nearest metro station (in northern VA) which will still be 35 min out from GWU DC campus. I would say renting a car might be the best option. Not the ideal situation, but Ashburn is just very randomly placed on the map. Hope this helps! :)

Hey everyone!! I also was accepted to GW for Spring 2017! I am moving from Boston so I know little about the area but I am hoping to live in between the DC area and the campus in Ashburn (I talked to some previous students and they said this was best). I am also looking for a roommate !! I will add myself to the Facebook group but just thought I would say hello here first! I can't wait to meet everyone :)

I have also heard to stay in between Ashburn and DC. Does anyone have any specific recommendations for living, such as apartment names or things like that?

Hello Everyone! CONGRATS to all on acceptance! I will a part of the Spring 2017 cohort too!

I cannot wait and am beyond excited! I visit DC often and have friends who have recommended the Falls Church area, I'll be researching and hopefully visiting that area while I am in town for the second W2 interview session. If anyone is interested in roommates or knows of anyone renting out garage or basement apartments in the area I'm interested. I am currently in Oklahoma this year for prerequisites, but call Pensacola, FL home (I'm a Navy brat.) Looking forward to meeting you all! and Good Luck to us all with W2!

Hi Stefsteph, Reston has come up a few times, I was recommended to look in Falls Church area, you want to be near a metro station for certain, easier commutes into the city and more things to do in those areas.

Hey guys, I'm in the Fall 2016 cohort and wanted to stop in and maybe (hopefully) help answer a few questions. I scoured allnurses while I waited for a decision, so I definitely know what some of you are going through.

To pile on to the housing questions, I live in Ashburn and it's been really convenient for me. Initially, I wanted to live in Reston for the same reasons that everyone else is bringing up: it's a cool place, it's recommended, and it's between the school and DC. I decided on Ashburn because it's cheaper and I didn't want the morning commute along hwy 7 to have an effect on getting to class on time. I dealt with that while doing my pre reqs and it just wasn't a good start to my day. With five different classes and 2 labs to attend during the week plus clinical, I honestly just wanted to wake up and make the one mile trip to class without any hassles. Plus it's nice to go home during a two hour break and catch a quick nap.

For the first semester, you'll be going to your clinical site once a week and you'll be at the Ashburn campus the rest of the time. It's a cost/benefit thing. I just wanted to cut the stress down while I figured out my nursing school kung fu.

Ashburn is a pretty chill place with a couple of pop-up shopping/eating/hang out type spots...check google maps and you'll see. The most popular area is called One Loudon and I've had a pretty good time over there so far. The Fitness Equation is this ridiculous (read: awesome) gym that will give GWU students a discount membership rate: $62 initiation fee (down from $125) and $39 a month. Look at their website, it's like Globogym (Dodgeball. Anyone?) without the elitist attitudes. There's also LA Fitness about 10 minutes in each direction from Ashburn. I bring up the gym because that's how I decompress. If you drink alcohol, eat pizza, watch movies..One Loudon has a lot of that going on too.

If you guys have any other questions feel free to PM or post.

Hi there! Pjh8886, I saw that you applied for the VBSN program. I will be applying to the same program for the Fall 2017 cohort. If you are willing, there are a few questions that I have for you! My email is [email protected] if it's easier to email. Thanks!

If anyone else is reading this and is applying for the Fall 2017 cohort, feel free to email me with any questions or to compare thoughts. :)

Hi! Thanks for the info. I am accepted into the Spring 2017 cohort. Do you still feel the same about your living situation? I currently live in SW DC. We were considering moving to Ashburn, however, I was told only the first semester is predominantly in Ashburn and the clinical hours could be anywhere in the DMV.

Thank you in advance for your advice. Hope school is going well for you!

Hi there. Could any of you let me know what your schedule is like? I am looking to start in the fall and want to know what the work load is like in the beginning of the program
