Columbia ETP Program 2012 entry

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi,

I plan on applying for the anesthesia program at Columbia and I wanted to know how the background of those that have been accepted look like to see if I'm even competitive enough apply.

Thanks!

Hey all! I'm applying for the 2012 cycle too. I really really wanted to apply early decision, but I had an issue obtaining one of my transcripts and will likely not have it in time to get it in by this Friday. Does anyone know if they will accept my application anyway? Or do I have to have that transcript there by the deadline for my application to be considered?

knh39, you should probably call the school as soon as you can tomorrow (or Tuesday since Monday is a holiday, not sure if they'll be there?) and let them know what the issue is. Most likely, if that is the only piece missing of your application, they'll let you send it in still. But at least give them a heads up about it!

myelin, mine is about 2 pages.

Hi everyone!

I've been reading these forums like crazy since the summer so I thought it was about time I posted. I sent in my application in mid-September for the peds program and I'm already struggling with the wait. I received an email early last week that my application was under review (already!?!) and to check the website for my decision. Needless to say this will be a long month!

I'm also applying to the MPH program (epidemiology with a secondary concentration in global health) and am not at all looking forward to having to go through this whole process again. Anyone else looking at both?

I have a BA in Community Health as well as International Relations with a concentration in Global Health and have spent time in China studying Traditional Chinese Medicine (and Mandarin!) and South Africa where I worked with healthcare teams (urban and rural) and did my thesis on the health care and admissions policies at an orphanage. Right now I am a clinical research coordinator in the emergency dept of a pediatric hospital.

I submitted a 1 page resume as opposed to a CV but I'm sure a 2-page CV is perfectly fine if you need the space!

Still getting everything together for the other schools to which I am applying: BC, Northeastern, NYU. Northeastern has a pediatric acute care program which is particularly exciting considering I work in pediatric emergency medicine research but we'll see, every program has something great to offer!

Good luck everyone, I'm glad there are people out there who will be going through this with me!

Hi Bkhiyw,

I submitted my application on Sept 30th. How long did it take you to receive that email saying that your app is under review. Is that the same email that tells you that your application is complete? I've been waiting for that email and just curious to know when I will get it. Thanks!

Oh by the way Bkhiyw,

You sound like the perfect applicant. If you don't get in, I don't know who will. Congrats on all of your achievements!

CUSONAPP

Sorry I have been crazy busy at work and haven't checked the site for some time. My stats were as follows: GPA 3.2, Pre-reqs 4.0 (all completed), and GRE 1100. As you can see they are very average, but I have worked for 2 years at an oncology center specializing in ped's brain tumors. In addition to that I also spent a summer working at the health department. I really think Columbia does a great job looking at applicants as a whole and not just numbers/grades. I was shocked I was wait-listed because there were people with 4.0 GPA and 1400 GRE scores that were denied. All in all, I say just got for it and you never know what schools are looking for. Just be yourself and everything will happen as it should, don't worry! Good-luck!!!!! :)

CUSONAPP-

Looks like I submitted my application on 9/12 and the last recommendation was sent in 9/29. I got the change in status email on 10/4. The email basically said that everything was received and the app had been forwarded to the committee and it listed the status of everything (i.e. received and/or official). If you submitted 9/30 I'm sure you'll get that email soon, when were your recs sent?

Thank you for the kind words, if there is anything I learned from reading these boards it is that everyone applying has got something really cool going on, I have no idea how these admissions committee do it.

I'll let you know if I hear anything.

My last rec was turned in on 9/28. Hopefully I'll hear something by next week. :)

It seems that everyone is so motivated on this forum. Majority of you all submitted apps well in advance! What a pleasure it would be to join you next year at Columbia.

What kind of recs did everyone get? I got one academic, one professional, and one personal/professional.

Thanks KKendes and BK for your replies. As always they were very helpful!

Yay, I submitted! Phew. I have one professional rec and two academic recs. Now I need to finish up my app for UPenn. Is anyone else applying to their program? They don't seem to have a thread on here...

Congrats, myelin!! Knew you could do it. :)

Cusonapp - I also had one academic reference, and two professional.

Finally, my app is submitted! I am overwhelmed with joy, and I Can't believe this is all happening. It seems like I have been planning for so long, now all I need to do is WAIT. I submitted two academic references and one personal. I just graduated in May, so my work experience is not as extensive as my academic.

Is anyone else a recent graduate and applying ED?

Finally submitted mine yesterday!! Whoohoo!!

Is anyone applying to UPenn?? I didn't find a UPenn forum for 2012, and the application is due this Saturday. I figured this would be the fastest way to check to see what other people were doing..the resume section of the application has both boxes for "work experience, "etc. as well as a section to upload your resume. How did those differ for you? I find that the work experience section in my resume would be the same thing I would put into the work experience box, but I'm hesitant to copy/paste because I don't want it to be redundant. Please advise, if you know what I'm talking about!!

Thank you!
