Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

Hey Star77,

Thank you so much for the information. Will we be getting another "packet" from them in the mail soon about the scholarships, schedule etc?

Hey Hopeful,

Last year we got the schedule when we got there, in our folders. I think your day starts at 8, and they'll review the day with you, so you can get to an interview by 9 if you have one. Some of us had later interviews (10, 11). That was last year though. The process may have changed, but I doubt it.

I have no idea if they're sending you anything else. We are so far removed from any knowledge of the application process... I have no idea who's reviewing stuff (aside from our Dean) or who makes decisions. I'm sure they keep us in the dark purposefully. I'm not an expert on this process. I'm simply posting what I remember (form of procrastination from what I should be reading...).

Also, remember that what they did for us might not be the same for you, so keep that in mind.

Hope that helps. I know you guys are nervous, but from what I remember, once you have an interview you have a pretty darn good shot at getting in.

Take a deep breath and just be yourself.

Star77,

Thanks so much for this info. Knowing how the day might go is a little more helpful. This "in the dark" stuff is pretty annoying and adds to the "anxiety" of the interviews.

Star77's rundown of interview day was exactly how I remember it. This is my second go, and the only thing different for me is that last year I interviewed on two different days...being an in-town Oaklander. This year however, I only received information on one interview day, the 16th. I would actually rather have both interviews in one day so I don't have to take two off of work (since I'm saving those vacation days for my trip to Trinidad in February...woohoo!).

I didn't receive any info on the mixer either...weird.

Good luck people!!! The day approaches!

From what I gathered from the letter requesting an interview, this year there will only be one interview, and both the nurse manager and the administrative person will sit in on it.

I was confused too, but after reading over the letter again, it seems as though there will only be one interview.

I'm not sure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.

This way you only get one chance...

Hmmm, well if so this should be interesting! My interviews last year both went well, but the personalities were sooooo different. The faculty member was so relaxed..kinda hippy-ish and motherly and the nurse manager was real cut and dry to the point and kept saying "nursing is hard, are you prepared for that?" So the most important thing is that you are well informed about your goals and your understanding of what you're getting yourself into and knowing what you have to contribute to the field. Let your personality shine through...(well that's what I thought last year...so ehhhh I hope it works this year!)

Speaking of interviews, have any of you heard back after sending an email to charlotte gardner? i confirmed that i would attend the interview before Jan 5, but have not heard back. The interview letter stated they would confirm our confirmation after the 5th.

I haven't received confirmation either. Last year I sent my email on December 24th and received a reply on January 2. Charlotte Gardner had forwarded to Jillian Wang, who responded.

I keep checking to make sure I entered the right email address lol.

well, that makes me fell better! how devastating would it be if we did indeed email to the wrong address and could not interview as a result!

but that didn't happen. night nurse, is this your second year interviewing? what day? specialty? i'm on the 16th for FNP. hope to meet you! -tony

Yep, second year--interview the 16th as well.

My speciality is ACHIN....look forward to meetin you too!
