Post Arrival Gait Disturbance Syndrome(PAGDS)

Published

I came up with this one a few months ago while sitting in triage.

From the triage desk, I can see out into the parking lot. I can see people getting out of their vehicles. It is soooo funny to see folks walking (briskly) without a limp until they come through the ER doors, then they begin to walk with a pronounced limp.

Thus, they are Nursing Diagnosed w/ PAGDS!

Thanks Lunah. Come see me in 20 years and we'll discuss the fact that we're really not kidding here. So sad. ER staff have a particularly unique veiw on the world, sort of like preists. We make a living off people sins and their luck with the wheel of misfortune. Glad you enjoyed it though.

Oh yeah, me too. I love to quote them. Whatever they say that I think is relevent I put quotation marks around it. Love it when the abdominal pains have to wait for a room and I chart that they're eating cheetos and drinking mountain dew!

I know, I know ... it's one of those "if you don't laugh, you'll cry" things. ;)

Loved the comments, LMAO. Others I have heard/seen (maybe here), status dramaticus,

parental insufficiency, the positive(insert fast food name here) sign..... to name a few.

And yes if you complain about something not evidenced when you approach me, the discrepancy is noted.

Was in the ER last night. The patient beside me was a Level 1 Drama. The staff were on the verge of making her a retroactive abortion. Security was considering some wall to wall therapy. We're really lucky in this profession. A night in the ER is like watching a really bad soap opera, only we get to participate and they pay us!
