Possible to work as a nurse in Europe?

Hello,

I just finished my Bachelor's in Nursing through an ABSN program in 16 months. I am committed to working in an MICU for one year.  After that year, I would like to move with my German fiance back to Europe.  I don't think that Germany is the best place for nurses, especially because I would like to continue onto being an NP in a couple of years. I understand that Switzerland and Austria may have some advanced practice nurses and may allow a US nurse to work there.

I do speak German at the A2.2 level and am confident that I can get it up to B2 in a few months work. Does anyone have any help of information for me here?  The information online is scattered, and not specific. Thank you!

Hi.

Actually, I would like to hear the developments, what did you do?  How are you?

What is it like to be a nurse in Germany?

I too am curious if anyone has any updates. I'm trying to figure out where I would like to work abroad, and Germany keeps popping up

There's a German nurses' forum. Try posting for information.

I did not end up going to Germany to start nursing.  Nursing in Germany is apparently similar in responsibility, respect, and pay as a nurse aid in the States.  Couple that with there are no opportunities for advancement for nursing in Germany, such as becoming a nurse practitioner in the States.  I stayed State-side and am going to pursue a degree as a nurse practitioner.

There is discussion about developing the nursing field further in the future in Germany, but they are very slow to move and evolve the profession.

I've been coming across similar information as well, which sucks. But thats why it's good to do your homework! Thanks for your follow up
