Possible job or should I look past this?

Hey everyone I'll try to make this long story as short as possible. So I've recently graduated with me ADN this past May and was able to pass my nclex-RN exam July 6, 2013. Within my last med-surg rotation on an ICU step down unit, the manager noticed me and mentioned me to my teacher. I took that opportunity to stay in contact with her throughout my last semester of the nursing program. My email consisted of letting her know how much I enjoyed her unit. Throughout each email I always kept it professional, Never asking to be hired once I became an RN, just always stating "I look forward to updating you upon successful completion of my NCLEX-RN". She mentioned in an email to "consider them once I begin my job search". I updated her when I graduated letting her know I was studying for boards.

So I recently did my usual update, informing her that I am an official RN, an this is where I went out on a limb an told her "if there are any current positions I may qualify for I would be delighted to be considered a possible candidate". Quickly she responded. "I do have a full time day position, apply online an I'll look for you". I instantly applied and informed her my app. was submitted. I mentioned that I look forward to hearing from her and she emailed back "me too". So a day after I noticed my app status changed to "not accepting new grads" so I emailed her and asked "does this concern eliminate my possibility of being a candidate and if so thank you for your time to date. If not, when should I expect to hear from you? She quickly responded stating "I requested the status be changed to accept new grads. Let me get with recruiting". I tald her thank you for the excellent news and I look forward to meeting her, she replied "hope to see you soon". Sorry for the long story but What do you guys think? My mom tells me I have the job and that this process takes a while unlike your typical "mall job". Do you guys think I'm getting the run-around? or it this how things happen in the hospital? I look forward to all the feedback from my allnurses family!!!

This is totally normal in the hospital. It seems that she is very interested and will most likely be hiring you. However, she has to go through HR, and they typically operate Monday-Friday. When I was first hired into my hospital, it took about a month from applying to actually attending orientation. Congrats on passing boards!! And good luck!

Sounds like she is trying to hire you. I think you can give her a few days and tell her you are interested and ask where things stand. The next step would likely be the formal process: interview application resume

Sounds good !! But i suggest you keep looking till you have an offer.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses!! Thats whats I needed to hear. I'll continue to have faith and become more patient with this new process.

Sounds like you have made a very positive connection with the hiring manager, and this is always a good thing.

However, her decisions may be trumped by HR rules. If the job was 'officially' categorized as no-new-grads, there may some hoops she has to jump in order to get it reclassified. Hang in there! Crossing my fingers for you.
