Possible Failed Urinalysis After Accidental Exposure

I apologize, I'm new here. Not sure if this is allowed. Not a nurse, my spouse is. Posting this asking for thoughts or similar experiences.

Over the labor day weekend my spouse (who does not do drugs) was accidentally exposed to THC vape liquid. I'm active military so I dont use either. My spouse is a travel nurse so they are required to take drug tests prior to the contract start (which they did last week and passed). We were at a friends house for a cookout (drinking was involved) and my spouse thought they were grabbing my vape which is identical to my friends girlfirends vape (which had THC oil in it). They only took the one draw off of it before realizing it wasnt mine. We thought it was fine and that it wasnt a big deal since the drug test was already given. However, today at the first day of indoctrination, the hospital administered a drug test. Since the exposure was recent, we believe that it will come up positive and will be a huge problem. Any thoughts on this? I realize this story sounds ludicrous and typical, but it is the god honest truth.

Hopefully, that one puff from a vape will not cause a positive. However, if it does, lawyer up! The hospital (or agency) will likely report to the BON in that state.

For peace of mind, go to a drug store and buy and do a home test, see what the results are.

Is the BON specific to each state? If it is positive and they are reported, would they be able to get a contract in a different state?

Thank you for your response. I'm just trying to be helpful as possible, also I feel partly responsible since the friends are mine.

So the home drug test came back with a negative result. But that only tests negative if the concentration is less than 50 ng/ml and normal lab tests are 15 ng/ml I believe. Don't know whether to be relieved or still worried.

Glad you did a home test. Easier said than done- but your spouse needs to just take it easy , if it were me I would drink extra fluids and just be prepared if the test happens to be positive (which I highly doubt) , be prepared to get a lawyer if the BON does happen to call. The first thing they did with me after I self reported was call and set up a meeting where I gave a statement to an investigator. Not knowing anything about it- I spoke with an investigator without a lawyer. I did have an alcohol and opiate problem and felt so guilty that I spilled my guts!!! It’s taken the Bon 3 1/2 yrs to contact me after the statement . Now I have a lawyer and I meet with the BON next month.

Tell your spouse I said good luck and to take it one day a time. ?

YES, BONs are specific to each state.

This is harder to answer, but, theoretically, yes, they can get licensed in another state, especially if the current state has not finished the investigation (if there even is one). It will become more complicated if/when the original state either reports or investigates, etc.

Again, if it is positive, consider hiring an attorney who has license defense experience.
