Sorry to bug you all with this, but I read a thread saying that about half of last June's new graduates could not find Portland Metro-area hospital jobs because of oversaturation. This is just raising my stress level a bit as I graduate in May and need to stay in the area for family reasons. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.
Is everyone who's a new grad looking for transition programs?
I certainly am - but at this time there's NOTHING open and I've looked from Eugene to Portland (I'll be in the Corvallis area to start, but will travel for a good new grad oportunity).
Adventist Health Care in Portland wrote me back saying they'd have more openings in Spring for new grads...but in the mean time what am I supposed to be doing? I know someone on one of these threads suggested just calling up and requesting an interview, but if there's no program/training openings - I can't see what good that would do.
Any new grad job search hints or tips would be appreciated.
I just graduated in June and have been looking for a job for about one month. The process has felt like longer to me due to all the hard work and struggles the last 4 1/2 years. The problem is that Providence, Portland Adventist and Legacy only hire new grads on an internship. These internships are not plentiful. Yeah, there are lots of jobs listed on the web sites but they are not for new grads.
Maybe I am just being a little impatient but I really want to work now. I'm sure that there will be openings for us all eventually, but waiting for these openings is hard.
Good luck in your search.

The job scene I obtained now was that.... about 3 years ago, the schools and hospitals sat down and reached some kind of agreement. The schools are to increase the enrollment and the hospitals are to take their students....now, they kind of shoot themselves in the foot...because the number of graduates is considerably more than the number of entry-level vacancies....
Well done.
