Portage or Straighterline?!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I’m between Portage and Straighterline for A&P 1 and A&P2, and Microbiology. what was your experience like? How long did it take you to finish? Thank you!

I'm thinking to do nutrition, pathophysiology through study.com

OMG that’s awesome! I contacted my community college and the register dept said yes they do accept them. They Cc my email with the transfer department and I was told they need my official transcripts In order to do an evaluation to see what portage courses will transfer in as.

That just got me double thinking, I don’t just want to waste my money and time for them to do the evaluation and say I’m missing lab or what not. I sent them the courses syllabus too.

Sometimes it’s best to tell them Geneva college instead of Portage Learning

They’re regionally accredited; the only issue to clarify is if virtual labs are acceptable.

That’s a good point. I’ll wait for their response and mention Geneva college. So my labs should transfer as well right?

Okay, I’m about to give Portage a try. How would anyone that has taken A&P1, A&P2, and Microbiology rate their experience with the course? Was it hard? What was your final grade? Thank you

I’ve taken A&P 2 a few months back and received an A. It took me a while because I really studied hard. A lot of work but I would take the course again via Portage. I’m taking Micro now and the work is not as hard as A&P but my professor is horrible. It's almost like she wants me to fail. I currently have a B in her class with 1 test and a final left. She marked one of my questions wrong because she wanted to know “why” BUT the question wasn’t open ended. She takes off points for no reason and her questions can be tricky. Hopefully when you take Micro you won’t have her as an instructor.

Thank you so much for responding back. Hang in there you are almost done with micro! What is her name? I wonder if we can change professors LOL at least you have a B ?? How long is it taking you to finish micro?

Professor Wilson. I tried to change professors in week 1 but Portage doesn’t allow that. This is week 8 for me. I tried to take 1 week for each module but got behind. My goal was to finish by this Monday and I think I’ll reach my goal.

8 weeks seems doable. Would you recommend doing like nutrition while doing A&P? Is the workload heavy? How are the exams?

Because it’s self paced I think you can take as many courses as you like. Micro is not hard it’s my professor. You can 1 hour to take each exam. The labs are really easy and you can use your notes for the lab test so I didn’t study for those. You do need to study for the module exams. I haven’t taken Nutrition at Portage but I heard it’s very easy. As far as A&P 2, it’s a lot of work but I personally would take another course with A&P 2 (no science courses). The test were straight forward most multiple choice, if you study you’ll be fine. Don’t rush. It took me about 4 months to complete A&P 2 only because I didn’t work on it everyday. My professor for that class was great, responsive and helpful. After each module you’ll have to answer questions. Make sure you really know the answers and use that to help you study. The labs are long compared to Micro but not hard.

Thank you so much for the info!! I actually plan to take nutrition through study.com but study.com says students take two courses at a time.

how did you feel about the final?

You’re welcome. The final was easy. Very similar to the entrance test (I believe that’s the name of the test you take before you start the course)
