Portage Learning in Metro Atlanta

Published

Hey everyone,

This is my first post. I want to know if anyone has used Portage Learning specifically for science courses with labs, and which specific schools (if any) accepted those courses. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it. I need to knock out these prereqs for nursing school.

I've been researching it. I've been told no by Chattahoochee Tech. Based on the equivalency transfer system it looks like Kennesaw State, Georgia Highlands, and Brenau will accept. I haven't gone much beyond those as far as contacting admissions. Keep in mind in the equivalency system some courses show but others don't. I don't know if that means they haven't been evaluated or if they've been denied.

I've been selecting Geneva College in Pennsylvania as the inputs to check if they transfer. Let me know what else you find out.

Community college is normally cheaper, especially if you take more than 1 class at a time.

Mercer will accept some, but not the science courses.

I added a little additional info. What schools were you looking at?

Thanks... I've been following your posts specifically so I'm glad you're the one to reply.... Chattahoochee was my first choice so I'm kinda bummed out that they aren't accepting portage. I'll look at Kennesaw as well.

I'm looking at either a community college or an accelerated BSN. Chattahoochee was first choice. I wanted to avoid Herzing and Chamberlain.

Yeah, it's my first choice. I've been persistent on researching it because I've already passed A&P I & 2, but unfortunately they're over 10 years old. The good news is Chattahoochee Tech will accept these without a shelf-life. It's the only school that will though, so I wanted to retake it for a backup plan, but it would have been nice if CTC would have accepted a higher grade from Portage. I contacted admissions at Georgia Highlands and they added to classes they would accept. However, they require you to hold a CNA license. It would be nice if there were some consistency. I'm trying to weigh options without wasting time. I'll probably take A&P again at CTC to move my B to an A.

Well, I was going to add that Herzing and Chamberlain also accept. The $90K price tag is a bit much (It would be less with transfer credits). It also takes 3 years because it is designed to go from nothing to a BSN. I already have a bachelors degree. I don't want to spend semesters doing nothing because the rest of the cohort is doing classes I've already done.

I'm gonna retake A&P as well. Mine are over 10 years old. Did you say that Georgia Highlands accepts sciences from portage or did I read that wrong? I'm hoping that Georgia Highlands accepts my Medical Assistant Certification in lieu of the CNA requirement.... I've been a Certified Medical Assistant for over 10 years.

Yes. They told me they would.

Thanks.... That's good news. Now to see if they will accept my Medical Assistant Certification in place of CNA... I'll call them and see.

I'm a non-traditional, career change student. I just want to make sure that everything I'm doing is a step in the right direction. I don't want to waste any more time, so I've been over-researching.,

Just following up. Have you started any Portage classes or gotten any more info?
