Can someone please tell me why a pork allergy is a contraindication of dalteparin? I tried googling but didn't get much of an answer
Sorry silly question 🙈

Most likely it has pork products in it.. It is an injection... Like most vaccines contain egg products so allergy to eggs is a contraindication.
Googled... Dalteparin sodium is produced through controlled nitrous acid depolymerization of sodium heparin from *porcine* intestinal mucosa followed by a chromatographic purification process.
Porcine= pork

Because the heparin may have been obtained from pigs, making it a pork product, and thus contraindicated in those allergic to pork. Perhaps dalteparin only uses pork derived heparin.
Thanks all!
