Polk State Fall 2018 Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone! This is my very first post, but I have been snooping for awhile now. I didn't see a current thread for Polk State Fall 2018 hopefuls so I figured I'd start one, so that I could find others like myself that may or may not be in full on freak out mode!!!

Here is a little about me...feel free to share a little bout you! I am a 34 year old mom of 3. I have a teaching degree, but unfortunately, the school system sucked the joy right out of that! I have instead homeschooled my kids for the past 8 years while working for my husband helping him get his business up and going. My oldest is now getting ready to start high school and I have been feeling lead to step out and do something new...plus we could really use 2 incomes now that the kids are getting older. My passion has always been helping people and being a paramedic was always on my list of dream jobs, however their hours are hard with having an active family. After much thought, I have decided to pursue a midlife career change and become a nurse! My family is super supportive and thinks I would do great. With that being said, I am freaking out at all the change and the what ifs!

I have all but my science pre-reqs complete. I am taking A&P 1 over the summer and applying for fall pending completion in hopes I can take A&P 2 and Micro while doing the nursing program (if I get in); however I hear it is harder to get accepted without all your sciences complete. I have a 3.75 overall GPA and a 3.64 program GPA. I also have a bachelor's degree. I am taking the TEAS this Friday. I have taken 2 practice exams and scored a 72 and an 81. I am hoping I can pass it but am finding it difficult in the science section since I haven't had A&P. I am holding on to hope though that I can pull it off and end up getting accepted somehow for the fall. I am not getting any younger...LOL!

So what's your story? Past or current students have any advice?? Hopefuls want to freak out with me?? All are welcome!!!

@khaskin93 , awww man I am #21 on the alternate list , aww man , I have no other options, I am done with my pre-reqs, do you guys know any school that is currently accepting applications ( I can't find any other)

Was there ever a Facebook group created? If not I can create one...

I made a group, it's called Polk Nursing Fall 2018 if anyone is interested. :)

Can you post the link? :)

I got accepted too! Excited to meet you guys!!!

Not to burst any bubbles, but, the PSC Nursing staff will set up a Facebook page/group for us. It is highly recommend joining that group because there are some people who do not use/know about the allnurses website. Just thought I'd give you a heads up!

Oh awesome! I didn't know that, should I go ahead and delete the one I made?

I mean you don't have to, but I know that many other students will join the one created by PSC.

So for everyone who's still reading posts on this forum...

I am a nursing student going into nursing 4 and I am the treasurer of our FNSA (Florida Nursing Student Association) at PSC. The other officers and I have already created the class Facebook page for you all and we will give you the information at either the upcoming orientation or the one after that. We will be attending both orientations to introduce ourselves to you all. I strongly suggest you join the Facebook page that we created, because it is a good way to not only stay in the loop with your classmates, but also to stay in the loop with the goings-on in the nursing program, as the officers post updates every now and then. That being said, congratulations to everyone who has been accepted and we look forward to meeting you all!

Hi Breroses, CNA I got accepted into the nursing program for this coming term. I wanted to know if the meeting thats coming up. Is the first on just to go over the papers in the packet and answer any questions? Do we have to anything completed before the first meeting?

This first orientation, at least from what I remember from my own 2 years ago, is to go over the packet and clarify all of the information provided. They will be going over the health information they need. When I went, everything that was needed by the first orientation was listed in the acceptance packet. I don't have one sitting in front of me, so I can't tell you what exactly you need. I know that we had to bring money for badge reels and lunch that's provided at the second orientation. This orientation is pretty much a general information session for accepted and alternates. Hope this helps! í ½í¸Š
