Polk State College School of Nursing Spring 2023

Updated:   Published

I didn't see a forum started for the Spring term yet, so I figured I'd bite the bullet and do it myself!

This is just a place for us to stress cry, ask questions, get support, discuss issues we're having related to nursing school, etc.

Keep it PG-13 and please be kind!

Mine says Admit status: N too!

I called them and she said their decisions haven’t been made and it might not be until the end of the month instead of September 15th which kind of sucks. I wanna know alreadyyyy ahhh. I wonder if that means there were a lot of applications…

anyways, crossing my fingers, but I think we will both get in based off of the stats for the people who got in last Spring.

I GOT IN!

First semester it’s Monday Wednesday for class then whatever clinical day. They used to take preferences for days but IDK if that’s still true. Then whatever days you decide to go to lab hours.

Hey! Congrats, I cant wait to meet you both at orientation. Where did you find that Monday/Wednesday info so I can read more.

Should we maybe all make a group chat of some sort

I am totally down for a group chat!

Hey guys! I am in nursing 2 now. I started the Spring of 2022. I just wanted to give you some study tips for nursing 1.

FLASH CARDS (quizlet) helped me so much.

If the professor has something on their slides but it’s not on the ones posted, WRITE IT DOWN.

Make charts if that is your thing. I made charts specifically for pharmacology. I would split it up by Classification, mechanism/ action, uses, and any special notes that they mentioned such as drug to drug interactions - black box warnings, etc. Then I would print the charts out and listen to the lectures about 2x-3x each to write down additional notes. Took a lot of practice quizzes.

Buy a white board I would rewrite and repeat.

Don’t get discouraged from a bad test grade - a test grade does not define you. If you do get one just keep your head up. You will do amazing!!

I used to want to be one of those iPad girls and would take my precious time trying to make my notes look pretty until I realized it did not help me retain the information & that I couldn’t do it for every single lecture because it was so content heavy. Repetition and watching the lectures on 1.5-2x speed was enough to help me. That is why I stuck to my charts & Quizlet as my main study method.

I would also watch lectures going to school or anytime I was in the car (specifically for pharm) - I would also record lectures on voice memos for foundations since they did not have recorded lectures available at the time. (Maybe they do now).

Take practice quizzes (best way to test your knowledge).

Simple nursing videos or RegisterednurseRN on Youtube to simply some things.

I personally believe that Nursing two is a lot better than nursing one - the material does not get easier but exams are spaced out & are not back to back. I wish you all the best & good luck on this upcoming semester- YOU WILL DO AMAZING, just believe in yourself.

How do you determine your point value?
