Polished the floors, so now ?

OK, say you have been a floor nurse forever...........

You are over 40, what do you do next?

{now that you are a grown up}

:p

There is nothing wrong with continuing to be a floor nurse. We need more Indians and less folks aspiring to be Chiefs sometimes. I know that was not politically correct but sick people need seasoned nurses to take care of them too!:D

I've been a charge nurse, never aspired to be supervisor or higher, got enough headaches and grief for the pay in the trenches, now voluntarilly a floor nurse and much more than 40 years old;) I resist efforts to up my "status" again to charge. Too many resposibilities for the amount of pay and there are nights when I really enjoy the folks we take care of and then there are times I want to work at Wal Mart , but we've all had days like that!:roll And we can always mentor the new ones coming in.

I am not quite 40 (it is looming!!) I made the change from clinical nursing (ED) to workers comp case management and I LOVE it!! I loved the ED also but tired of the hours etc etc. I give all of you Lifetime ED nurses a BIG pat on the back!! I do occasionally miss it when I hear a siren. I love my new job..I don't do hands on nursing anymore but I still use my nursing brain daily. I work from home so I am able to attend appts with workers but then I can save my reports for later or early so I am almost always here when my kids get out of school. I make the same $$$ I made in the hospital. It is fun..but then I like "coordinating" things (control freak??). I also like to be busy and productive..with this job I usually have 100 things going at one time..like the ED without the blisters on my feet. Erin

And what makes the difference at being 40???????

What makes the difference after 40 is the realization that pention is poop and wont cut it when your knees give out and or you back. heck even the Social Security Administration letter each year tell you that 95 % of those that can retire at the age of 70 will have to live on less than a third of what you curently are making today. I am over 40 and have 3 teenage kids. New modivations and needs make it imparitive I build assests that produce greater returns without the sweat, strain and time most revenue streams require.
