PMHNP admissions

Published

Hello, I have a couple questions regarding pmhnp admissions.

I have a 3.43 BSN GPA, 3.7 cumulative GPA, 3.8 Science GPA including As in Organic Chemistry and Physics.

How terrible is a 3.43 BSN GPA for schools that primarily look at BSN? Should I be worrying?

For schools that look at cumulative gpa, is the gap between my cumulative and BSN a red flag?

can taking a couple grad classes and achieving a 3.7-4.0 impactful in light of my 3.43?

Do pass fail classes count when calculating the last 60 credit hours?

A combination of life events and the learning curve of nclex style questions has made it difficult to fix my gpa in a program with only 38 credits that count and are not pass/fail.

I don't think your GPA will be a problem unless you have poor grades in some of the clinical nursing courses. Schools don't just look at numbers, but look at trends and your performance in relevant courses (nursing and science grades). Regardless, I would not take more courses in your situation. Instead, focus on other components of the application and make yourself stand out. Also, apply to a sufficient number of schools to ensure that you'll get into a program. Unlike CRNA programs, PMHNP programs focus less on grades and more on your understanding of the NP role and your fit with the program, imo.

Your grades are pretty good honestly, granted, programs are competitive but you seem like a solid student overall and given the fact that you have a BSN already you won't have as hard of a time as you fear.

Are you a new nurse? because this is reading like "I just graduated how hard is the nclex?". Most the programs have gpa requirements, some require the GRE, some don't, and some do masters while others give you opportunity to fail out and make you go DNP. Pick something that works for you.
