2014 PLU applicants?

Published

Anyone applying to PLU this year? I'm also applying to UW in Seattle, will be my 1st time applying to PLU, anyone have any tips or advice? Not sure how the application process for them works.

Nothing yet here for ELMSN.

I looked over threads from previous years - some people said they found out "two weeks" after applying, but in general it seems like notifications started going out late January (through June).

I have friends who went to PLU and many in WA ST regard it better than UW for BSN....They have the most clinical hours in WA from what I hear plus the Tacoma area has awesome connections for grads. Many of my friends got the hook up because of the managers were PLU grads

Hello! I am also applying to PLU for 2014! I am super excited! Already received my acceptance to the university, but now I just need one from the Nursing program!!! I was going to apply to UW as well, but because I work, and have a 2 year old, it didn't seem very ethical to have to travel from Tacoma to Seattle every day!

Are the applications still open?

I think PLU operates on rolling admissions. A woman in my A&P class said something about a Wednesday deadline though - so that may have been the priority deadline.

1 feb is priority deadline, sweet I still have time. I wasn't going to bc of my military school stuff but I'm now thinking about separating from the military so it gives me more school options :)

Cool, good luck in your decision. I have been in the Reserves (Army first, now Navy) for nearly 20 years and I always encourage people to stick with that at least if they can. You may want to look into it :-)

My top choice is either Seattle U or PLU (both direct-entry MSN programs). I change every other day between which is my #1. Statistically, I have a better chance at getting into PLU (just based on the number of applications they get vs. what Seattle gets). PLU impressed me in a lot of ways when I went for an info session, and they do have good benefits for mil people (Yellow Ribbon program). Personally, I also like the fact that it's a smaller school and smaller classes.

I think my firs choice would be plu bc it's right next to the base where my kids go to daycare/kindergarten. It would work out perfectly, just need to figure out if I can afford to get out lol. I am going to look into the reserves too & may try to go back in to get my commission but they're only accepting nurses with two years experience right now. Competition for new grad slots is extremely fierce but I would hope I would be better qual'd since I'm prior enlisted ;)

Strangely enough, being prior can sometimes hurt rather than help. But it all ebbs and flows. Right now we're in a cutting phase, and it will swing back around. After I got out of the Army, I shopped around and that's how I ended up in the Navy. They were the only ones who would let me keep my enlisted rank (E6 - even the Army would have let me back in as an E5) and told me to put in a direct commission packet.

In any case, is it too late for you to catch a PLU info session? The cost of the school is intimidating to me, but they seem to have a lot of financial aid options. I have honestly heard only good things about both the BSN and MSN programs so far.

I was going to start looking at their application requirements, I wasn't sure if they require TEAS or anything else. I also wanted to look at what the yellow ribbon program is, never thought I would use it bc I always thought I'd stay in for 20+

I have my GI bill too, but really wanted to use that for my kids. My hubby transferred his to our son & I wanted to transfer mine to my daughter. Ugh so many decisions!!

Oh goodness I feel like I am anxiously checking my (ELMSN) application status everyday & it hasn't changed since I submitted everything back in November! This waiting game is soooo hard!!!

so do we have to get admission to both PLU & school of nursing or is that just for BSN??

Do you think the PLU status will change? I know Seattle U has that function on their website, but I didn't know PLU did too.

I don't think we have to apply for admission to PLU separately, but that is a good question! I think I irritated someone in the admissions office last week... I wrote and asked when the first admission notifications would be going out (I figure any day now, right? It's been 2 months!). The response I got was "You will receive some kind of decision letter by the end of April."

Trying not to read too much into that one liner, but then I started thinking, well, if I was anywhere near getting admitted - and I applied by the priority deadline - perhaps she would have been a bit friendlier.

Yep, this waiting game is definitely makin' me crazy.
