Hello. I'm a Japanese RN in Japan and I'm taking NCLEX-RN for NY state next spring.
I've heard that I'll have to get SSN after passing NCLEX within a fixed time limit.
Could anyone tell me when I'll have to get SSN by after passing NCLEX?
I called NYSED to ask it , but lines were busy.
Thank you for your time :blushkiss

SSN you get once in the USA and have a valid stamp in your passport allowing you to work in the US. Can't be done before then
Thank you for your reply and information about SSN.
But I'd like to know how long I'll be able to take time to looking for a job to get SSN in the states after passing NCLEX. The period is important to me for planning taking NCLEX and applying for visa screen. Thanks.

You can only get the SSN if you are here with a legal residence visa. You don't need a SSn when you apply for a visa screen certificate. Don't worry about the SSN because right now you do not need it. Concentrate on applying to the NY Board of nursing and passing the NCLEX-RN.

i think it will take around 14-21 business days for you to receive your ssn, without any problems in your documents.if there is then it will take a couple more weeks.GOOD LUCK IN YOUR EXAM.
as said above, you don't need it until you arrive in the US there is no time limit on getting SSN but there is a time limit from getting your visa to arriving in the US I think it is 6 months and if you don't arrive within that time frame you have to reapply for greencard

Well, I didn't know that ... I thoght I need to get SSN soon after passing NCLEX , so I worried about getting SSN
But now I understand that I don't have to worry about SSN. I'm trying to concentrate on only passing NCLEX!!

Please read the "Primer" at the top of this forum. And if you are not planning to actually work in NY, then do not even go that route.
