I am hoping to start school in Fall for my prerequisites. The community college I'm going to attend says that in order to enter the nursing program I need to have a GPA from high school or last college attended of 2.5 or better.
I have two problems. One is I have a GED...never went to H.S. So I have no GPA from there unless they look at my GED scores. Not sure how that works. The next problem is I went to a community college about 12-13 years ago and had to drop my classes right after the second semester. The first semester I was taking 3 classes. Passed two of them with C's but failed Chem 100. So my GPA was 1.24 for that semester. Second semester since I had to drop the next 3 classes I only got a GPA of 0.29.
Will I be able to take prerequisites and have them base my GPA on those instead?? That's what I'm hoping, otherwise it doesn't look too hopeful.

At my school, you can retake the same class and replace the old grade with the new grade. The old grade will always be on your transcripts, and you will have attempted more hours than you actually passed, but IMO it is a better to have the higher GPA. Not to mention that the old grades are really old.

Hey Hope,
I am starting my prereq's this summer with Math-Intro to Algebra. I have a GED too, and they are going to go by my college credits I am taking now. Like CardicRN said retake the chem and other classes to get a better grade. I am taking Chem1010 and Biol1001 this fall.
Try to sit down with an counselor; mine was very helpful answering my questions.

The community college I went to had a thing called "academic restart" where they erased all your old grades and let you start fresh. I don't know if this works if you have attended more than one school tho.
But you might want to check into it.
You could also pretend like you never went to college and not tell the school about it - I know people that have done this, but I don't know if it is legal or whatever.
Do they look at your ACT scores also?

I went to college right out of high school and dropped out after a couple of weeks for 2 semesters. Thus my GPA was 0.0. I started back in the spring and took a summer course, and requested them to look at my last 15 hours of school, with a GPA of 4.0. This is was suggested to me by the head of the nursing department. So, I will keep my fingers crossed for entry into the spring 2006 semester!(I had been out 14 years)
