  1. Hi, You know I've wondered the same thing to a degree. Like you I can handle blood and guts. I show and breed dogs and while they are nothing near the same as human medicine, I've dealt with giving lactating ringer's sub Q, Tube feeding newborns, watching and even assisting in C-sections when the Vet and I were the ONLY ones at the Vet clinic at 2am. I've also collected semen from the dogs, done AI's. So not much grosses me out. As far as stress, I was a 911 dispatcher for fire/ems. So I can deal with that. With all that said I do have a bit of apprehension about doing things right. But I suppose I'll learn how in class and clinicals. I don't have the strongest backbone though and do not like being yelled at. So I may have to really get over that one quick if I have hard instructor's or very verbal boss's. I'll have to go find that thread. But I too would love to hear from others about this kind of stuff. K
  2. I am hoping to start school in Fall for my prerequisites. The community college I'm going to attend says that in order to enter the nursing program I need to have a GPA from high school or last college attended of 2.5 or better. I have two problems. One is I have a GED...never went to H.S. So I have no GPA from there unless they look at my GED scores. Not sure how that works. The next problem is I went to a community college about 12-13 years ago and had to drop my classes right after the second semester. The first semester I was taking 3 classes. Passed two of them with C's but failed Chem 100. So my GPA was 1.24 for that semester. Second semester since I had to drop the next 3 classes I only got a GPA of 0.29. Will I be able to take prerequisites and have them base my GPA on those instead?? That's what I'm hoping, otherwise it doesn't look too hopeful. K
  3. Hello Everyone, I'm a 35 y/o Artist and I'm going to be going back to school in the fall to start the prerequisites and work my way towards entering a Nursing Program. I'm very nervous though about my ability (or lack thereof) when it comes to Math and Chemistry. Both are my biggest weak area's. I did take Chem 100 about 10 years ago in college and failed It was SO hard! I had my tape recorder and took tons of notes. But almost all of us in the class were so lost it was just pathetic. I, along with most of my classmates just never caught on to most things the instructor was trying to teach us. Not to mention he went lightning fast so it was very hard to keep up (thus, the need for the tape recorder). Then there's math. Algerbra is like a foriegn language to me. Give me something past division and percents and I'm pretty much in uncharted territory. (Someone's probably out there thinking oh man, she's in real trouble LOL!) Can anyone offer advice that may help me in these area's? Has anyone got help through a tutor while taking these classes? Any study tips that have helped you catch on? I know I'm going to need all the help I can get in these two subjects. English Comp, Creative Writing, Social Studies, Psychology, etc...all those I'm pretty good at and have a lot of confidence that I can get through those and get at least a passing grade. But not sure at all about Chem and Math. Thank you, K
