Hi there,
I am in my last semester of ADN school and we have a math calculations test tomorrow. We were given a sample test and I don't understand how to work some of the problems. We have never had an IV complex therapy class,,,,,,,,so we are kinda thrown into this. I wanted to know if anyone had a formula that they use to calculate these.......Thanks so much. I will list a few problems.
1. Order: Primacor 50 mg in 100 ml NS; infuse at a rate of 0.375 mcg/kg/min; Wt. is 228 lbs. Pump setting is ___________ ml/hr.
2. Order: IV bolus of 1500 cc of D5W over 8 hours. tubing rate is 10 gtts/ml. Pump setting is __________ ml/hr
Drip rate is_____________gtt/min
3. Order:Amiodarone 300mg/500ml D5W to infuse at a rate of 5 mcg/kg/min. WEight is 330 lbs.
The patient is receiving how many mg/hr?____________
4. Order: NS 2.5 L Q 12 hours
The bag was hung at 0600 using 15 gg/ml tubing. How much should be left? It is now 1430? _____________ML
(I know this one is probably simple, but don't understand how to work it)
Thanks for all your help!!!!
I have always done the ratio to proportion formula to work out my problems. But we have not had any critical IV drug therapy lessons. Thanks again.

Did they give you the correct answers to these to check your work?

the formula for mcg/kg/min to mg/hr :
mcg x kg
---------- x 60
1000
(let me get home from work and i will work these problems. i will post the formulas, not the answers)

I PMed you earlier today about sending some worksheets that show how to do these.
Thank you both for responding. I used the formula that GIJay gave me and it worked on the problems that I had on the test!!! yeah!!I passed it with a 90.9. Counting down the weeks till graduation!!! 12 weeks to go!!! Thanks again!!
