Hello! I am a nursing student from Texas that has lived a very sheltered life. If everything goes off as planned, I will be graduating in december 2007 and I want to move to california in January. What is the first thing you do when you are getting ready to move? What are the nice areas in california to live but on a nurses salary? Do you guys believe it is foolish for me to come from a very small town in Texas and move to L.A.? From television, california is beautiful and I want to move there but I am soo afraid that I won't fit in and that my parents will be angry with me. Please help me!!!

Hi Twilight3. Do you know anyone here in CA? That would be very helpful. Los Angeles is a big city, and keep in mind that what you see on T.V. is a very small part of it, there is much more to it, and not all areas are near as nice as what is shown on T.V.!
I lived in L.A. for almost 10 years, and there are a lot of areas that are not that great, so do your research before you just decide to come. I now live in northern CA (the Bay Area) which is nice (I like it SO much better than LA) but it also has its areas that are not so nice.
Also, you don't want to alienate your parents, they don't deserve that. If this is something you really want to do, make sure you sit them down and explain that to them, and let them know that if it doesn't work out for you, or that you don't like CA after all, you can always come back home! That might make it a little easier for them to take.
But you sound young, and you will be a nurse, how wonderful for you. If CA is where you would really like to go, then do it while you're still young enough! Just do your research first!!!
Good luck and keep us posted!

And I would definitely get the NCLEX written before you move. Always much easier to do when you are still in familiar surroundings, and always better to have a job lined up before you come.
Best of luck to you.

:yeahthat: And research NORTHERN California, like Vicky said. While the weather is nicer in SoCal, NorCal has a LOT to offer!
Good Luck!
