Hesi is different from the NCLEX. I took the hurst review and passed the NCLEX first time around.

I have not tried St. Joseph's yet but I have heard that is a neat place to work. The Womans Hospital has finally called me for an interview and I hope that I can pull it off. Wish me luck!

I don't know what to do! I recently graduated nursing school and have taken NCLEX and passed. Right now I have been job hunting, applying online and have not been getting any call backs. I have been looking for jobs in the medical center and I know they have a right to be picky. But I wish they can see how much I desire to work there and how I would love to learn from them. In april I went on an interview for a summer internship and they told me they would contact me by the end of that week. They never called back. I just feel as though that the hospitals in houston don't like me. But I want them to so I can get the proper training as opposed to the training I would get in my tiny town. Looking for a job is all new to me and I am having trouble selling myself. Maybe some of you that are from houston can advise me on how to look for job there.

How long did you study per day. Also how many weeks did you study.

I failed the hesi before and afterwards my instructor and I went through the test together. When we looked at what I got wrong, my instructor showed me how to use test taking strategies for the hesi. 1. If the stem of question asks what will you do FIRST, think of the nursing process. The first thing you do in the nursing process is assessment. Choose the answer that sounds like assessment. 2. Figure out what is the problem in the question. Look at what the patient came in for. For example, if it is a renal question then answer with a renal answer. 3. If it is a priority question, think safety first. What will kill the patient or endanger them. Choose the most emergent answer and remember airway, breathing, circulation. 4.When delegating to UAPs, make sure it is within their scope of practice. Never allow the UAP to assess, evaluate, teach or discharge. 5.Room assignment questions. Like diseases may room together. If the disesase or condition is contagious then they need to be in private rooms or semi private. 6. Fix the problem and do not delay care. What can you do as a nurse first before you call the doctor. 7. If a question wants you to deal with a problem on the floor. Choose the assertive answer and not the passive. For example, say "I need" not "Will you please". 8. With psyc questions think therapeutic communication. Don't say any thing that could start an argument. 9. For words you don't know, try to break the word down. Most likely you will guess the meaning once its broken down. 10.If you come to a question that asks for a statement choose the most global answer. 11. If you don't know how to answer the question, look at your answer choices. If they are all similar in some way, choose the odd answer. 12.Know your labs and what foods contains iron or potassium or sodium. A psychologists came to talk to the people including me that failed hesi. She told us to choose a score that you want to make. Visualize that score until you want to stop. Do it everyday until the test. Supposedly this exercise helps with determination in passing the test. I hope that I can help you, there is no guarantee this will help. But I did what is written above and I finally passed with a 958. I kept reading post after post about reading nclex books and hesi books/cd. Thats good and I suggest you do that as well, but to me you have to also understand how to answer hesi questions. Their questions are different from nclex questions. Do your nclex or hesi cd to build endurance and to acquire knowledge. If anyone has any questions you can PM anytime.

Hi! I was just wandering, what did you do to study for the hesi exit? How often did you study? I have taken the hesi 3X, and I don't know what do. I am such a failure!!!

I am drowning and need some help!!! Does hesi get gradually harder each time you take it? My scores are 762, 860, and 702. I know those scores are pitiful. But I don't know what else to do. I've done the hesi cd, some saunder's question, taken the hurst review twice, and did a few questions from the nursing 3500 cd. My heart is hurting because I have to except an incomplete in one of my nursing classes until I pass with a 900, take a directive study course that cost $800, my degree is held and I have to reapply for graduation. The last test we took was version 4 and I did not know how to answer those questions, it seemed harder. I don't mean to whine, but the nursing schools are not being fair at all. They did not have to take the hesi in order to get their degrees so why should we? I was banking on graduating because I am in desperate need of insurance and I really love nursing.

What did you study in order to get above a 900? I received an 860, but needed a 900. Please help me!!!

Would you say the hesi is about test taking strategies are knowing the material well?

Hi!!! The test were scenario based with tons of labs in each question. You have to determine in your mind the the highs, lows and norms. With that, what condition is your patient in and what are you going to do about it. What threw me off was in class the patho and cardiac surgeries were the focus of the lecture. The nursing interventions were not really disussed. If I could turn back time I would have studied differently and not changed answer. Now we only have one test and a final, which means I have to work hard. I wish I were as smart as my classmates. By the looks of it, they passed and were happy. I am part of a class where everyone is smart except me. They are judgemental and love say, " I wouldn't trust her as my nurse." That bothers me so much and makes me question myself. And I hate group work with them because I get nervous and say wrong things, which comes off as being incompetent. For anyone reading this please remember me. I have only 5 weeks left in the critical care course. If I don't pass, I don't graduate. Nursing school has been a struggle and it would mean the world if I could attend the pinning ceremony, graduate, and become a nurse. Thanks for reading!!!
