Please help, question on wrinkles,collagen and topical application

I have done extensive research on the question and can't seem to find it, could somebody please help me or direct me to a site with such an information?

Question: As we age our skin wrinkles due to changes in collagen and elastic fibers in the dermis and a decrease in their production. Explain why topical application of collagen and elastic fibers would not eliminate wrinkles.

My guess would be that the topical versions cannot soak down to the dermis.

Molocules are too large to penetrate the skin when applied topically
