G`day everybody

I'm Luc, 23 years old, a french nurse working with autistic children in Paris.

I decide to join you cause I m really planning a trip in Australia for 1 year from May 2006 thanks to the Working Holiday Visa.

But if you can read Holiday in this title, there is Working too!

So, the purpose of my topic is that I would like to know if in Aussie there are works possibility with people with learning disabilites ( suffering from autism, mental retardation or down syndrom...) for a pseudo-migrant as me

In fact I dont want to postulate as nurse cause I dont have the equivalence and ,I concede to you , not the english skill for the moment as you read!

For the moment That's more for test the aussie life and the taste of this country that I m looking for.

and instead of making fruit picking i prefer work in the way i like and for the one I m qualified.

I m open to all kind of help: address, email of institute, association, create contact with somebody.. I m really motivated!

Welcome to the Aussie Forum.

My suggestion to you would be for you to make your visit a truly working holiday. Don't bother about getting work in the field which you are currently working. I know you wrote that you don't particularly want to do the fruit picking etc. But! Unless you have qualifications in the nursing field, such as being an RN ( registerd nurse), you really will not obtain work, as a health care professional, in the health industry.

You haven't clearly stated just what your qualifications are. Are you a nurse?

Also, if your english isn't too fluent, you might have problems communicating on an every day basis, let alone in a health setting. Therefore, working at a job where your ability,- or lack of, to fluently speak english, - would not be overly paramount, might be the better/safer, option. Both for you and those you work with.

Just some ideas for you to consider. Hope it's helpful.

I've just re-read your post where you DID state you are a nurse. But then you wrote that you don't have the equivalence?????

This confuses me.

Are you more of a carer as opposed to a qualified nurse?

I m a real nurse, graduate from Paris Institue of nursing and I m currently working with autistic children. when I talk about equivalence, I meant that I think my diplom is not recognized in australia , isnt it? From the information that I was abble to read I need to pass an equivalence to work as a nurse.

But for the moment I just want to discover the australia and why not ,if its possible , work with mental deficient people but not as nurse.

I dont know if my explanation is clear! but I really thank you for the time you passed to answer me, thats really nice.

You would have to contact one state registration board and apply to that board for registration - some require you to do a program before you are registered here. It might be better to apply for a position as a either a nursing assistant or a personal care assistant especially if you are looking at the field of intellectual disability nursing.

Je suis heureux que vous fassiez bien. Je suis nouveau ici. J'ai pris des Français dans le lycée. Mes parents parlent français. Je ne suis pas une infirmière encore. Je commencerai le programme en septembre de cette année. Je suis ne peux pas attendre pour commencer.

I am doing well. I cannot wait to start the program in September.
