Please help my grades are killing me!!

I currently have a 3.2 science gpa but a cum of 2.3. Has anyone been accepted into a BSN program with these kind of statistics. I am extremely passionate about health care and I do not want my dreams to be ruined because of mistakes made when I was younger.

I'm freaking out about my grades as well, though my situation is slightly different. I have B's in Anatomy and Bio but I still need to take Microbio, Physiology, and Chemistry. My GPA for my Pre-reqs are 2.8! :( By the end of this semester I should have a 3.0. I know some schools only look at your most recent grades, and not the past marks. Others, however, like the school I'm DYING to get into look at ALL of your grades cumulatively, which sucks for me. I'm going to apply to all of the nursing schools in my area and pick the best one. :/

I was recently accepted into a BSN at a pretty reputable school. Historically, the average GPA for those accepted into my program range from 3.80 to 4.0. My cum. GPA is 3.47 and my science GPA is a 3.48, but the thing about my program is that GPA wasn't all that influenced their decision. We also had to submit an essay and resume. OP, if you really want to get in I suggest you retake the classes and bring your GPA higher. I would also contact the director of the program as well. Good luck!

You go where they take you, LOL. I was crushed when I got my rejection letter to the BSN program I wanted. But I got into an ADN, graduated, studying for NCLEX and moving on. It's not the route that I wanted for myself. I'm certainly grateful for it though.

Hey guys ADN is not much easier to get into these days... Just saying. It seems like everyone wants to be a nurse

Yes. My ADN program of choice is extremely competitive. I pretty much need a 4.0, a really great HESI score, and a lot of hours worked as a CNA to get in.

So far, I have that 4.0 and I'm working on those CNA hours, but I have a long way to go.

Science GPA weighs heavier than prereq classes in most instances. Still GPA alone does not mean you will or won't get into a program. Just because your GPA is 3.89 does not mean you are a shoe in for a program. What is that 3.89 consisting of? A person could have a 4.0 filled with fluff classes that only serve to boost a GPA, means very little. They do look at other factors.

I would suggest, like others here, that you speak with specific programs. Have them look at your transcript and make suggestions as to how you can improve your chances. They may suggest that you take additional classes to boost that 2.3; that doesn't mean that fashion merchandising is what you should choose. Lol! At any rate, good luck on your journey.

Not true. Any program I have ever looked at, whether it was an ASN program or BSN program they either look at a cumulative GPA or look at certain classes which is usually a couple of sciences, an english, and either a psych or math class. Every program I have also looked at has a bare min GPA to apply. There may be a few programs at a 2.0 to apply, but I have never seen them. Most it's a 2.5 or higher to apply.

This person is going to have to see if retakes are allowed at all.

@NuguyNurse2b Yeah, I'm definitely seeing now that even ADN programs are competitive and wherever they end up accepting me, I will go. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that it's a decent one that will actually prepare me for the field.
