Please guide me what to do..

Hello guys,

I need your advice badly, because I'm very devastated and really don't know what to do..

I'm a foreign trained RN, who wrote the Canad. exam in February, and applied for an Interim Permit. I have work experience of 14-15 years in acute care settings in my home country, but I don't have Canadian experience and I didn't work for 2-3- years. Now, I tried to do everything possible in order to find an employer to start working under an Interim Permit. But it seems impossible, because I applied not only via Internet for every hospital, but also went to Human Recourses with my resume, but didn't get any response.

Also I applied via HealthMatchCanada, but they called me and told me that can't help, because I didn't work for 2-3- years. I'm very upset and don't know what to do..

Please, please guide me what to do..May be I have to take some courses or what?? Or may be hospitals don't like hire somebody with this Permit?? Or I have only one option--to look for something in nursing homes..? Also I wrote in my resume that I will accept any position in acute care..

Thanks for your help, guys and I appreciate any suggestion you give me..

What is "Interim Permit"? is it something like work visa?

Interim Permit means a temporary license or permit until you get the results of the Canadian exam, or take the exam. Same thing in the US.

my husband papers are currently on process. He got hired thru Northern Health. How come healthmatchbc did not even recognize my husband hospital experience. he's been at the OR for more than 3 years and 2 years at ER. Now we have to settle for a far north community. But its ok though. Lucky for dawson's creek hospital, its like 2 nurses in one stone, im a nurse myself and they are short of nurses in that hospital so they will hire me as well.. :)

It isn't that they are not recognizing the experience but the vocabualry is quite different for many of the instruments in the different countries. Even if you came from the UK to work in Canada in the OR. Most nurses, even with a long work history in another country, need a good, solid orientation when they come over to the US or Canada. And this goes for the ER as well. There are also many different idioms that are used in the different countries and it can actually cause very large problems.

Suzan, Thanks for the explanation.

Suzan, does that mean there is virtually no difference between US and Canada, and work-experience are mutally recognized?
