Please guide me what to do..

Published

Hello guys,

I need your advice badly, because I'm very devastated and really don't know what to do..

I'm a foreign trained RN, who wrote the Canad. exam in February, and applied for an Interim Permit. I have work experience of 14-15 years in acute care settings in my home country, but I don't have Canadian experience and I didn't work for 2-3- years. Now, I tried to do everything possible in order to find an employer to start working under an Interim Permit. But it seems impossible, because I applied not only via Internet for every hospital, but also went to Human Recourses with my resume, but didn't get any response.

Also I applied via HealthMatchCanada, but they called me and told me that can't help, because I didn't work for 2-3- years. I'm very upset and don't know what to do..

Please, please guide me what to do..May be I have to take some courses or what?? Or may be hospitals don't like hire somebody with this Permit?? Or I have only one option--to look for something in nursing homes..? Also I wrote in my resume that I will accept any position in acute care..

Thanks for your help, guys and I appreciate any suggestion you give me..

hi..what country are you from?

my husband recently passed the assessment evaluation for foreign trained nurses in CRNBC. an employer called him for an interview last week. they told him that they will contact his references then they will call again. it seems bright last week but until now they have not called the references yet....hmnn

are you in canada right now? i thought u wont be able yo take their examination until an employer will be willing to take you in?

what part of canada are you applying?

I'm in Canada and I'm applying in B.C., but no results yet..

Kate,

What about looking into a refresher course? These are for RN's who have not worked for several years who want to get back into the profession. I'm sure you could find one in BC.

Kate, do you actually have an interim permit from the College of Registered Nurses of BC, or are you talking about a work permit?

If you have an interim permit from CRNBC, and you have written the exam, you should be able to be hired almost immediately once you have an interview and references are checked. I know for a fact that there are many jobs unfilled in the lower mainland as acute medicine, surgery, and the specialty areas as ER and ICU/CCU if you have the appropriate education and training.

Not knowing the location (where in the province) and the exact area you want to work in make it difficult...but you absolutely need that interim permit, or you can't work.

I'm talking only about an Interim Permit, which can't be issued by the CRNBC if you DON'T have an employer. How can you get an Interim Permit without an employer? That's the major thing is to find an employer..

Thanks for your help!

Kate, check on the Health Authority websites for the province...if they are requesting an employer in order to grant you a temporary permit, perhaps this will help.

I wasn't aware of this. I am sure we have hired people from out of the country who have written their exams and obtained an interim permit. These people have put a profile/applied on line for a position within a health authority.

I just received my application for temporary RN registration. There is a column to be completed by employer of the facility. I think Kate has to get a job first, then CRNBC will grant her the permit.

Hi Kate,

Its of no use until u pass CRNE exams. Me 2 had the same probs. I gave exams in Feb 2006 and also had interim permit. Contacted many employers but all says that they can hire only RN's. I tell u interim permit is of no use. So all we gotta do is wait for passing the exams. CRNE issues only Interim permit but they dont take any responsibility for hiring us. We gotta contact Health match BC or other. I did for last few months but no success. They all say pass the exams. Good Luck for results.

You are going to find issues with a hospital willing to employ you until you have actually passed the Canadian exam, same thing happens in the US.

And yes, you need to have an employer to get the Interim Permit there.

suzanne4 is right. I passed initial assessment from CRNBC and healthmatchbc.org found me an employer. My employer did the paper work for my temporary RN license and work permit. The only thing I can do now is wait for my work permit. I will take CRNE at Oct.

The Nurse Union in BC is so powerful. It's a standard salary scale in BC. No matter what hospital I apply, I get the same salary rate. It's amazing for me.

my husband papers are currently on process. He got hired thru Northern Health. How come healthmatchbc did not even recognize my husband hospital experience. he's been at the OR for more than 3 years and 2 years at ER. Now we have to settle for a far north community. But its ok though. Lucky for dawson's creek hospital, its like 2 nurses in one stone, im a nurse myself and they are short of nurses in that hospital so they will hire me as well.. :)
