Please give me advice on your experiences with this

I was just hired into a huge very reputable health system. I was hired to start on a new floor. I moved across the country for this position. I am about a month into orientation on a sister floor. Now I've heard my new unit may not be opening as scheduled due to hospital wide census. This has been giving me a lot of anxiety even though my manager said they would probably find us positions in the hospital. They have about 5 large hospitals within an hour but I really like the one I was hired to. I am an experienced and well educated nurse but this is an area that jobs are very hard to come by. I was lucky to get this position.

Has anyone else been in or seen a similar situation? I feel like management is keeping me in the dark!

I know that a few here have, forget who they were. Maybe they will find your thread.

Anything, and everything corporate-think is the same. You are not one they deem needs to know unless convenient to them. But that doesn't mean you can't keep your ear to the ground and source out PRN jobs... just in case.

In this case, I wouldn't be thinking "conspiracy" about this. They probably don't know what they are going to do yet! They usually aren't all that efficient at the very top and downward communication can be limited, especially when they shoveled millions of dollars into a new wing over a multi-year period and are now left with no patients to fill it.

At any rate, as you stated, it may not open on schedule. That doesn't mean it may not open at all.

Hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the input. You're right, I don't think they know exactly what will happen either!
