Pleasantly surprised by my CNA's!

I am an RN (brand spankin' new) and obtained a job at an LTC facility. I was so excited because this is where my passion is. I knew when I started school that I wanted to go into LTC or Hospice care. So, when I got this job, for the first few days I loved it, but then the rose colored glasses came off and it's definitely not what I thought it would be. Anyway, long story short, I have had more support from CNA's and floor management than from any other nurse up there except for 3. I had a full blown panic attack last night and had to talk to one of the managers and she took me in to see the DON and we talked and things got calmed down. Well, you can bet the whispering and back stabbing had begun. I truly have never seen so much laziness and just blatant unhelpfulness (is that a word?) in my life with professional nurses. But, my CNA's stayed right with me last night and we got some things done. And they were pleasant about it! Anyway, just wanted to give a shout out to my CNA's. Y'all are appreciated by this humble nurse!

Hang in there! Unfortunately Nursing seems to have a lot of this kind of thing. It is very unprofessional and when you start a new job you will learn who you can trust and who you can't. Just hang back and stay to yourself for a while and keep it professional. Good luck and God Bless. Focus on your residents and you'll be fine.

You need to let them know!!! Bring in a couple of hoagies/subs for them and TELL them that you appreciated their support the other night. It'll go a long way for you all.

I agree! We have pizza about once a month or so on my tab, (Hurray for CiCi's!) I have, for the most part, WONDERFUL, HARDWORKING, BRILLIANT aides that work with me. We come in, bust our butts on the floor, and everything is super smooth.

(Plus, they have my back when the other nurse gets all fired up and tries to throw me under the bus.)
