Platt College Tulsa OK???

Published

Anyone graduate from here? They have a 2 year RN program. Are the credits transferrable if I decided at a later date to get my BSN? I asked the lady on the phone but she has me more confused than before I called. They also are 'seeking' accreditaion, which she said is a 'formality'..huh?

Any help appreciated!

32 mom of three who wants to be a nurse...am I cwazy?

This is what I found out about Platt:

The educational objective of the degree program is to provide the student with a thorough understanding of nursing science and to prepare the student for success in the national licensure exam, NCLEX-RN. Upon successful passing of the NCLEX-RN, the graduate will be qualified to work as a registered nursing in any healthcare setting. The curriculum is designed to meet the health care needs of the community while addressing the critical shortage of registered nurses.

The LPN-RN program received provisional approval from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing in November 2003. Provisional approval is required until the first class members graduate and take the NCLEX-RN. The Oklahoma Board of Nursing will re-survey the program in Feb 2005 for full approval status. Platt College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). The LPN-RN program is seeking accreditation from the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC). Initial application is in process with an initial survey visit scheduled for Feb 2005.

Does this mean that they are just like any other vocational school? I can't do three years total at TCC, and frankly those people down there are so rude, I don't know if I ever want to go there...

I'm also in Tulsa, and have researched every possible way of getting my nursing degree so I'll fill you in on what I've found out. Last fall I took the nurses aid course at Tulsa Tech and talked to one of my instructors about Platt. She is the clinical coordinator for Tech's LPN program and said NOT to ever go there. St. John's will not let you in the door as a student and rarely hires their graduates without significant previous experience. Also, their LPN program is somewhere around $16,000. They don't like to give you much information over the phone and want you to come in to talk to them and then they pressure you to enroll (that was my experience and have heard from others.) For TCC and Rogers you have to do all the prereq's which will actually take more that a year and they're pretty competetive as well. I have decided to take the LPN class at Tulsa Tech and just found out this week that I was accepted for the May class, which will take about a year. While I'm doing that I will continue to take my science classes at TCC and then plan to do OU's LPN-BSN bridge program. TTC has a long waiting list to get in to their program because it's 1st come, 1st served. Before I found out if I'd gotten in there I started looking at other tech schools in the area. The next LPN program I found starts in July at Tri-County Tech. in Bartlesville. I don't know if that's too far for you to drive or not, but the program runs from July 06 - June 07. If you're not in their district, the total cost is around $4100 and includes books, supplies,

uniforms, licensing exam and licensure application fee. I still have my info pack and application if you're interested in it. The deadline for it is March1 so you'd have to act fast.

I don't know if that's the route you want to go or not, but it's an option. I have just not heard good things about Platt, and even though it seems like the best option because you can get in immediately, some things are too good to be true!

PM me if you want this info on TriCountry Tech.

Thanks for the info. I can't believe how hard it is to get into these programs. I am thinking I may just give up. My husband agreed to watch the kids for a year in the evenings, but not for 3 years--there is no way his boss would agree to work around my college for that long. Not only this, but even after doing a year of pre-reqs, I may still not get in at TCC. Tulsa Tech is too expensive. They quoted me $15,000 for the LPN program, which is different than what their website says.

15000 for the LPN program at TTC???? Geez I paid that much to get my RN at a private college. If you are willing to spend that much check out Okla Weslyan In Bartlesville. They just restarted their nursing program. The wait list will be much shorted due to cost and the fact the program is new.

Tri-county Tech is only about 45 minute drive if you live in tulsa.

TCC does start classes in the fall and the spring.

It stinks, but I can't drive more than 20 minutes because of my schedule and because of my husbands job (long freaking story!)...You would think with the shortage of nurses that more colleges would make room for us.

Don't give up! I gave you the prices in my PM of what their fact sheet says, but I guess I never really asked anybody how much it was. I'm receiving vocational rehabilitation so they're paying it for me so that wasn't an issue for me. Sorry. When you called, did you speak to someone in the nursing program or just counseling? Counseling doesn't know anything. Ask to be put directly through to the nursing director. When I called one of the other schools last week trying to get info on their program the lady that answered the phone refused to put me through to anybody but every time I asked a question she would put me on hold so she could ask somebody. I never did get my questions answered so I found the e-mail address for the program director on the website and e-mail her all my questions directly. I'll PM you with the e-mail address of TTC's director and you can ask her the price. I just can't imagine it being that much! All the other LPN programs in the area are under $8000 except for Platt, which is twice that.

I sent an email to the HR nurses at both Hillcrest and saint francis. Both wrote back and told me that they hire nurses from Platt college all the time...Interesting..Not sure what to think now except Platt is VERY EXPENSIVE.

If you're wanting to go on for RN or BSN, check with those programs to make sure it will transfer. I know TTC has an agreement with TCC to get up to 30 hours of credit for their program. I also checked with OU before I enrolled at TTC to make sure they would accept their program.

If it will work, maybe you should go for it. But I know the cost is an issue. Guess you just have to figure out if it's worth it in the long run.
