planning to move in canda..pls help

Published

hi guys

kinda new here..

ive read so many threads as to why people want to stay in canada and so far, most of them are very encouraging...now i think it's time for me to hear from nurses' point of view as to what makes canada a good place to live and work (for us, most especially!)

i would like to know any opinions that you may wish to share whether you are currently working in canada or planning to work in canada.

i am considering moving and working in Canada, Ontario, within the next year,

any help would be so helpful.

many thanks. xx

No worries Fiona!! I know how bad it is in med-surg and everywhere else... How's that Full Capacity Protocol for screwing things up, eh? Naturally, the NICU/ICU jobs are "sexier" than the floor jobs... at least in some people's minds. But I like to call our ICU the Hotel California. As in "you can check in any time you like, but you can never leave". The wards are too short-staffed or have no beds... FCP be darned.

Hi fiona

I would be a walking disaster if you allowed me on your ward. I actually work in Psyche and place me there, I will shine :lol2:.

My area is adult psychiatry and will be moving into this area when i eventually arive in AB....sooner than later I hope.

Have a beautiful day...

But some of our patients treat us like a hotel. Our toothpaste is nasty, the towels are harsh, the beds are hard...

Sometimes I think the Psych floor would be a quiet happy place. But then I think about the murder up there and quite honestly couldn't face the number of incident reports that night must have caused.

Hi!

As I understand from this forum, the key point after having temporary registration is finding an employer. Could you tell whom to contact best in BC, Vancouver- health authorities, specific hospitals or agencies?

Thanks a lot for a good site.

hey...good to see you getting a lot of great advice. I completed my registration and all in BC. I have decided to work in AB, thanks to some great advice on this site and have a job with capital health. Im currently transferring my registration from BC to AB and hopefully everything can be done by November. I had no idea that a police check takes that long, was told by essex police it can be up to 40 days so thats what i am basically waiting for really.

Again, dont hold back, be adventurous and i think Canada is a country for that coz its so beautiful and vast!!. Hope you enjoy your vacation.

:)

hi there! an inquiry, if you are a registered nurse in BC and transfer to another place like ontario..do you need to take the canadian exam again?

is it true that if you are a registered nurse in ontario, you can practice your profession anywhere else in canada?

thanks!

No, you won't have to take the exam again when moving from one province to another. It's a national exam. Once you're registered in one province in Canada, your credentials are generally accepted in all of them. BUT... each province will assess your education and practice against their standards before granting you a license. It falls under the heading of protecting the public.

Hi,

I live in NW Ontario which is a bit isolated from the big cities. It is a great place to live and work. It depends on what you want to do in your spare time. We have terrific access to camping, fishing, skiing/snowboarding, hiking...all the outdoors stuff but the shopping is not as good here as in the TO area.

I also have a background in Critical Care (13 yrs). I have worked in the US. Texas, Maryland, and Minnesota. Much prefer working in Canada with our healthcare system eventhough there is a price to pay.

Good Luck with your search.
