Find a good massage therapist. Not just any massage therapist, a good one. Find one that has trained in Neuromuscular Therapy or Rolfing and has a few years experience under their belts.

I would also check out an orthopedic certified physical therapist who also does manual/massage work.

I wholeheartedly agree. I am a pre nursing student/10 year massage therapist. I was trained by NMT Center's founder Judith Delaney. She has co-authored a 2 volume series with Dr. Leon Chaitow (DO) called Clinical Applications of Neuromuscular Therapies. A must read if you are in manual therpay or in the chronic pain business. There is no replacement for good NMT for an aching pirformis/sciatic nerve entrapment. Too bad I am in Ga. or I would help ya myself. My sympathies. It really hurts.

I'm a massage therapist who is just barely beginning my prerequisites for nursing school. I was reading through this forum, as ortho is at the top of my list, when your entry caught my eye.

I just wanted to say that over the past 14 years I have helped countless people relieve their piriformis syndrome. That said, I'm highly specialized. Do NOT go to just any LMT. Find a great one. They don't have to have studied NMT or Rolfing...it doesn't hurt, but there are many other modalities which are just as effective. The important thing is to find an LMT who really knows their kines & has medical/rehab massage experience.
