Does anyone know the appropriate name for the pinky finger? I had a patient today that I treated for an injury, and when I was charting I realized that "left pinky finger" was a bit lacking:uhoh3:... BTW any good basic Anatomy refences would be appreciated as well.
fetch33, a few of the surgeons I work for have extra training in hand surgery and they also use index, middle, ring and small or they are numbered. Numbered being least often used. As stated by another reader/poster...we also differentiate with the joints as well for some procedures (MIP, DIP...)

I work on a large ortho unit in a major city. There is an orthopedic practice specializing in hands that uses this hospital. They call the pinky finger a small finger or fifth finger. The fingers are designated like this: Index, middle, ring and small or they are numbered.
