PICU/Pedi CVICU internships

what hospitals in the SA, austin, dallas and houston area offer new grad internships for those interested in PICU or cardiac PICU?

fyi - i am starting the excelsior program next month as well.

(i know dallas childrens and texas childrens have separate CVICUs, but i have not been able to find anything over training new graduates in those areas.)

You probably have not found anything right now because they have already filled the internships for May/June. I would check back towards the end of the summer...they usually post the January internships then.

Hermann Childrens is willing to hire new grads in the PICU.

Forewarning though - its a level one trauma center. It sees the worse of the worse and usually has a death weekly. It also sees the best of the best.

There are great cardiac surgeons there, and some weeks there are 4-5 heart babies done.

This PICU seems to have a high burnout rate..just because of the extremely high acuity. Any child you see that gets life-flighted, goes to Hermann Childrens, not Texas Childrens.

thanks for the info. do you know if texas childrens trains new grads into the PICU or cardiac ICU?

Children's Dallas hires new grads to the PICU, not sure about the CVICU though. PM me if you need more info.

Yes, two of my friends just got hired at TCH, one in PICU and the other in CVICU. They're new grads.

Scott and White in Temple, TX also hires grads to the PICU, but they do not have a CVICU as of the last I knew. I've worked there and loved it.
