Hi,
I am an RN learning to place PICC lines (with ultrasound), my employer is looking at starting a mobile PICC team to place piccs at all 4 local subacute facilities as opposed to sending the pt out to the hospital for PICC placement (inconvenient and expensive!).
Could any of you give me an idea of what you are paid to place PICCs-- are you a "regular" employee paid per hour (any increase for the special skill?) or are you paid per stick?
Thanks a lot.
Thanks for the link Chatttn0...I was unable to find info about insertion training, just lots of articles on their products. I did send an email query to them so will see if I get a response.I have found several PICC resources for training where a large group must sign up together, (from one facility) but so far none where individuals are welcome to participate. Sounds like one must be employed by a company who then arranges for training?
If anyone knows of a different setup or has any recommendations for contacts I would love to hear about it....would love to do independent contract for PICC's in my area.
Again.. count me in. Any further info on this would be so very welcome ! :)

Chattn0, thank you SOO much...just got a very kind and detailed email response from a clinical nurse specialist with BARD...they do indeed coordinate PICC training programs for nurses, through an online program and hands on in the community. :)
I am so excited...now I have a direction!! I will post the email address for Jnette and anyone else interested in PICC training certification. And of course the Bard address above got me in the right direction.

Boy you said it Jnette. I am all pumped and ready to get started!! BARD has hooked me up with their regional territorial manager who will get me started. It all begins with a $25 online course which nets me CEU's too so its not gonna be wasted no matter what.
To those here in my area, (Fort Worth Texas) please continue to forward me local contacts for my new venture so I can followup...and thanks in advance for all this great networking...I love it. :)
I am a PICC RN in a hospital that does not pay per: any placment it is charged on for what supplies are used and my time is charge accordingly... very sneaky way for the hospital to pay less for the service provided by a skilled nurses.hmmmm
You sure have that right ! How sad.
Well... you have the skill.. now consider the options available to you !
Why continue to allow yourself to be used and abused?
Question for those of you who are actively employed as a PICC Line nurse/consultant. What sort of facility or company do you work for? How much experience as a nurse did you have before moving into the field? Did you start as an Infusion Nurse? Any information you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks for your time in advance.

I work in Dallas as a PICC nurse. I know an agency in FW called Prentice Infusion Consultants. The owner is Jennifer Prentice. Her email is: [email protected]. She is very nice and helpful. She may be looking for help. I'm not sure.
