Hey guys, I'm new to this site but I have read some very helpful answers here so I was hoping you could help clarify a question I have. As far as PICC lines are concerned, I've had very little teaching about this. In a standard triple lumen, what are the differences in each of the ports? Are any of them used for specific things? For example, administering TPN, would it go into a certain lumen or would any of them work? And also, drawing labs or pushing meds, which would be best for this? I was just curious if there was some rule of thumb to help me out. Thanks!
Anyone?

Speaking from personal experience with my son (he has had 3 in his 5 years) that it can depend on the medications he is being given. Some counteract each other and have to pushed through in a certain order. At one point he was hooked to 9 different syringe pumps + TPN and it was a maze for the ICU Nurses to go through all of these lines and make sure counteracting meds didn't come into contact with each other. It is all a blur right now...I'll try to recall the steps and post more.
