Pic Lines.... Dsg. Changes

How often are these supposed to be done? Q48 hrs., Q72 hrs., once a week ? Is there a standard or does it depend on the MD order ?

Our policy is 24 hrs after insertion, then q 72 hrs after that. of course if the dressing is wet or starting to peel off, we can change sooner. I work in LTC, and have 4 pts with PICC lines.

Add me to the once a week for PICCs if using an occlusive dressing, 48-72 for gauze. My encounters were both homecare and SNFs.

24 hours after initial insertion and then Q 7 days and PRN, unless gauze and then it's Q 24 hours.

where i used to work we used a biopatch under a meduim tegaderm and it was hospital policy to change them mondays and thursdays. wo found having set days to change them meant less confusion and less forgotten dressing changes. always made a point to date and sign mine, just to see whether the changes were getting done as often as they should be.
